Today's Featured Biography
Douglas Straus
Hello, All! After living just about as many years with Troy Erickson as my parents, I decided to make a change and get married! No offense of course to Troy but the male-bonding thing only works for so long. So, anyway...Suzanne and I were married the last day of finals @ NDSU (Mechanical Engineering)in 1992 and we now have seven children. To the shock of many we have figured out what's been causing this! Honestly, they've been challenging but a blessing and if the pregnancies weren't so rough and damaging to Suzanne, we would possibly have more...but Suburbans only seat up to 9, so we're done.
Anyway, people ask if my wife works, and I say, "Yeah! A lot harder than I do! She stays at home with the tribe, and homeschools them!" Although sometimes when I get home from work she likes to get out of the house for a bit and have a conversation w/ someone that doesn't call her 'Mom', she does a pretty good job. (I'll brag on her a bit more, since you all know I've never had anything to brag about.) She also took two friends' children in for daycare, too. Busy girl.
After there schoolwork is done, the kids have been getting busy again with their 1/2 acre garden behind the shop. They raise a few hundred watermelon & cantaloupe each year and try to sell them at the neighboring gas station or in Fargo. (My twins last year had their melon selling operation shut down by one of the Harwood City Commissioners because they didn't have a permit! Too funny! Tim came home and said, "I'm ten for Pete's sake!").
Anyway, we get a chance to swing back to the lake now and then (when my parents are actually around). They enjoy retirement a bit too much. We see them now less often than when they were both working.
As for me, I'm a Sales Engineer for a company called G&R Controls. My work is exciting if you're the nerdy engineering type, but for the rest it is easiest summed up by saying I work for an independent office for Siemens and selling HVAC and controls stuff. More simply, my competitors are Johnson Controls and Honeywell.
On the side, still enjoy hunting, skiing, and poking fun at friends to make me feel better about my own shortcomings! Just kidding.
