Gordon Glaser
EMPLOYMENT:
1992-Present
EDUCATON SPECIALIST
Division of Public Health
State of Alaska
Provide statewide, technical assistance, training, and planning in injury prevention for children. Duties include, public and professional presentations, working with government and private agencies. The Section of Injury Prevention & Emergency Medical Services (IPEMS) acts as the lead agency for injury prevention in Alaska. Motor vehicle related injuries are a leading cause of child morbidity and mortality. IPEMS working with our Safe Kids Coalitions has taken an active direct involvement in developing CPS programs in an area one-fifth the total landmass of the contiguous US. I have co-lead many of the NHTSA-CPS technician courses held in this state. We have now grown to fourteen CPS instructors so that is happily changing. We work with public and private agencies like hospitals, Headstart, childcare, military, and native health corporations. We seek to integrate CPS into every entity that transports children. I hope to contribute by my pragmatic, data driven experience in the development and the implementation of common standards and practices for CPS.
I have taught CPS technician courses from Ketchikan in the SE panhandle to the North Pole near the Artic Circle. My CPS Technician number is 13 and my Instructor number is 130. I have learned much from my students. I helped review the current revised edition of the national CPS Technician curriculum. I am presently working on the update of the national Safe Native American Passengers Training for Transportation of Children (SNAP). I have presented at local and international conferences including the NHTSA’s LIFESAVERS conference.
