Today's Featured Biography
James Coby, Jr.
(Retired 2014) Just staying 1 step ahead of the undertaker.
Went to U of MD until 1968 when Uncle Sam offered a green suit with no right of refusal. Spent until 1973 with Uncle Sam. Returned to Md and lived in Burtonsville area for about a yr. Was hired by Control Data as Customer Field Engr. Lived in Rockville until 1978 then was offered transfer to Minnesota working on Super Computers. Spent 2 yrs in Minnesota helping to design,repair,and install one of the first Super Computer systems for US govt. Transferred to California in 1980 still doing support for super computers. Returned to Minnesota doing worldwide SC support until mid 80s, then began career doing OS / Application support for SunMicro systems and Silicon Graphics for Control Data. Left CDC in 1999 to become backline support engineer for Veritas Corp supporting data backup applications which had been developed by Control Data. Merged with Symantec about 2004 still doing training/ support/and course development. Been a heck of a ride from Operating systems loaded via paper tape to working on systems running at ~320 degrees below zero. Now we are off to the Cloud.
Volunteer at local Foodshelf monthly. Spend week to 10 days in Appalachia repairing houses in summer with Appalachia Service Project.
Married in 1974. Two kids. 1 author. Nickies Nook: Sharing the Journey.
