Frank H Wians Jr
I grew up in Waltham and attended Banks School, North Junior, South Junior, and the 1st semester of 10th grade at Waltham HS. My family moved to Southboro, MA where I attended and graduated in 1965 from Algonquin Regional HS in Northboro, MA. Therefore, if my family had not moved from Waltham, I would have graduated from WHS with the Class of 1965. I have more memories of my Waltham school classmates than any others.
Therefore, please notify me of any WHS Class of 1965 Class Reunions.
My bio is provided below:
Born and raised in Waltham.
1951-1962 - attended Waltham schools, including the 1st semester of my sophomore year at WHS
1963-1965 - attended and graduated from Algonquin Regional HS in Northboro, MA
1969 - Graduated as a member of the 1st graduating class of the University of Massachusetts at Boston (UMB) with a B.A. in mathematics
1970 - married Patricia Passaretti of Bloomingdale, NJ; married 41 years and counting. 3 sons and 2 granddaughters - 1 Hispanic-American (7 y) and the other Japanese-American (6 y). They are the joy of my life!
1969-1973 - enlisted in the USAF; trained as a medical laboratory specialist; stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson, AZ; obtained a B.S. degree in Biology and Chemistry from the Univ of Arizona
1973-1976 - Graduate student at the Univ of Vermont; simultaneously completed AFROTC at neighboring St. Michael's College; obtained an M.S. degree in Biochemistry; commissioned in the USAF as a 1st Lieutenant in 1975.
1976-1979 - Director, Armed Services Whole Blood Processing Laboratory, McGuire AFB, NJ; concomitantly obtained an MPA degree in Health Care Administration from Rider College, Lawrenceville, NJ
1979-1983 - Air Force Institute of Technology-sponsored graduate training at Harvard University, Division of Medical Sciences, Harvard Medical School, Brookline, MA; awarded PhD in Biochemistry in 1985.
1983-1993 - Chief, Special Chemistry Branch/Chemistry and Training Branches/Laboratory Services, Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX; retired as a Lieutenant Colonel on 1 Nov 1993
1994-2009 - Professor of Pathology, The Univ of Texas Southwestern Medical School/Center at Dallas; retired, 1 Jul 2009
2010-2011 - Technical Director, Core Laboratory, Baylor Univ Medical Center at Dallas; retired 27 Oct 2011, and returned to San Antonio
Author/co-author of 9 book chapters, 2 books, and 138 peer-reviewed scientific papers on clinical pathology-related topics. Board certified in clinical chemistry by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry
2001-2011 - Associate/Editor-in-Chief, LABMEDICINE [a publication of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)]
2011 - Awarded ASCP Lifetime Achievement Award in Laboratory Medicine
2012 - Editor, Elsevier journal, Preventive Medicine
2013-present Adjunct Professor of Mathematics, Park University Extension, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX
