Today's Featured Biography
Kathryn Howell Demers
After high school graduation, I attended Gordon College in Wenham MA, with a major in Elementary Education. It is there that I met my husband. After a year and a term there, I become discouraged with my studies since the market for teachers was so heavily saturated.
I tranferred to Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston, and following that, got a job at New England Mutual Life Insurance Company in Boston and in Burlington. After working at NEL for six years, I left to become a full-time mom.....which I have been doing for nearly 20 years now.
Over those 20 years, I have done much volunteer work....food pantries, clothing closets, exercise programs for the women in our church, helping in the local elementary school, etc. At home I love to fill my "free-time" with landscape and vegetable gardening, painting and wallpapering, and playing on the computer.
Last fall my oldest son's best friend and brother were planning to move in with us since their parents had divorced and were selling their house. In November the best friend died in a car accident; but the brother moved in with us as planned. It has been very interesting for all of us to adjust to the different life styles; but certainly an enriching experience.
It seems that every time I planned to go back to work or back to school, I ended up pregnant again. My husband and I have 5 children now with the oldest one in his second year of college at UMass Dartmouth, and the youngest one still in diapers!!!
