Anthony Palaisa

After graduation, I left the Bedford area for Louisville, Kentucky to attend Bellarmine University.
I took a break from school for a couple of years to get married and raise a few kids and returned to complete my BA in 1983. I had been working for the Singer Sewing Machine Company doing product distribution since my sophomore year (1967) of college and later became a factory certified sewing machine technician. I eventually moved into sales and a store management position which I held until 1981 when the Singer Company closed all of its company stores and support facilities.
While I searched for employment, I took a part time job with Louisville Tent and Awning Company repairing their sewing machines. A full time position opened up which I accepted and, after a few years, became manager of it and its sister company, Kentuckiana Canvas Products Inc. In 1992, an opportunity to work with adults with disabilities arose and I decided to take it. I managed the production and job training portion of the facility but also helped with the work hardening and behavioral modification programs. This was perhaps the most satisfying job I ever had but due to increasing costs and cutbacks in state funding, the facility could no longer support its developmental and rehabilitation programs and became what was fundamentally a day care center. I left shortly thereafter in April of 2005. In May of the same year, I accepted a position with Metal Sales Manufacturing as a materials manager which included both purchasing and inventory responsibilities. I also managed the safety program. I retired at the end of April of this year. Marsha, my wife of 40 years, and I enjoy the outdoors and do a little fishing, gardening, and volunteer work as well as spending time with our two daughters, the grandkids and greatgrand kids. Life is good!
