Ernest Barnes

I graduated from Wichita State in 1976 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Aside from going to college, I had not made many changes in my life after high school, so when I graduated from college, I decided to make a bunch.

Kiff (Karen) and I were married, and we moved to Dallas, TX to start work, and we have been here ever since then.

We have two girls, the oldest Shandra graduated from college with a degree in Chemical Engineering, and is now working in the nuclear power consulting business in Minnesota.

The youngest, Alisha, just finished her 3rd year of college. She is working on a business major, with a focus on Asian studies. She will almost have a Chinese minor, so she is thinking about working overseas after graduation.

Looking back, I can think of many things that are different from way back in 1971. Since I have been in the technology business all of my life, I think of how technology has changed over the years. It is getting harder and harder to see back all those years, as things seem to get dimmer and dimmer.

But just think. In 1971 there were no answering machines, no cell phones, no GPS, no computers, no email, no Internet. How were we able to survive in such a primitive era?

I started on my first computer programming in 1972, and by the time I graduated from college, I was designing systems based on this new thing called the microprocessor. By 1980, I had my first personal, home computer.

Just think about how so many other things have also changed so dramatically over these years.
