David Andersen
David Andersen is a respected corporate communications professional with a history of providing strategic counsel and tactical implementation of effective public relations, crisis management, media relations, marketing, government affairs, investor relations, and employee communications programs and procedures in support of overall business objectives at Fortune 500 companies, including Charter Communications, Inc., CNBC, Cox Communications, Inc., and General Motors Corporation.
David is presently an independent management consultant in Atlanta, providing strategic and tactical counsel in the areas of marketing, public relations, media relations, crisis management, investor relations, and government affairs. He also does executive coaching in interpersonal, presentation, interviewing, and communication methods.
Retained clients of his firm, DCA Management Consulting Services, have included a broadband telecommunications company owned by a New York-based venture capital firm, an international sports programming network new to the U.S. seeking carriage with cable companies, a wireless provider of broadband services to rural America, a commercial developer, a full service social media agency, the first multi-tenant Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) security provider, a provider of telephone, online, and direct mail customer satisfaction survey services, a market research and business strategy consultancy; a medical devices company, a bank under FDIC examination, two executive search firms, a national broadband telecommunications trade association, and two state broadband telecommunications trade associations.
Previous to this, David was Senior Vice President of Communications for Charter Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:CHTR), controlled by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, and among the nations largest cable television distribution companies. Reporting to the President and CEO, he maintained overall responsibility for all internal and external communications as the Company’s first Chief Communications Officer.
During his time at Charter, David maintained overall responsibility for crisis management strategies throughout investigations by the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission, near bankruptcy, numerous refinancings, and 17 Shareholder Class Actions. Following settlements with the DOJ, SEC, and dissident shareholders, he oversaw the positive repositioning of Charter and its management with shareholders, Wall Street Analysts, government officials, news mediums, employees, customers, and the public at large.
Previous to Charter, David was recruited to CNBC, a cable and satellite business news programming network. Reporting to the President as Vice President of Global Communications, he maintained overall responsibility for developing and maintaining a comprehensive communications plan in support of the network’s overall business objectives.
Before joining CNBC, David was recruited to Cox Communications, Inc., among the first cable television distribution companies, to establish a Communications Department. Reporting to the President and CEO as Vice President of Public Affairs, he effectively positioned Cox among journalists, public opinion leaders, government officials, and Wall Street, as a leader among all cable television distribution companies.
David began his career with General Motors Corporation, becoming the Southeast Regional Public Relations Representative in Atlanta, with responsibility to promote GM products, its dealer network, and manufacturing operations, with the news media, and a wide range of civic, business, and government officials in a seven state area.
David serves on the Boards of FiPath (www.FiPath.com) a Web 2.0 portal providing retirement planning information; and Ad Buying Network, Inc. (www.adbynet.com), a digital media planning and online advertising placement firm.
A graduate of the University of Kansas with a BS in Journalism, David received the Vanguard Award, the cable television industry’s highest individual honor, for Excellence in Public Relations.
