My wife Missy and I have been married since Oct. 11, 1997. I met her in a class at KU and asked her what the assignment was. Little did I know that it would change my entire life...for the better.
We have a dog named Hinrich (after former KU basketball player Kirk Hinrich).
No children, though I am a godfather 6 times over.
I've got exceptional friends, many of whom I've known for most of my life.
I LOVE KU, Lawrence, KS, Kansas Jayhawk basketball and football, and pretty much everything that has to do with my alma mater.
When I was 23, I lost my dad to cancer (he was 46). That experience has had a profound impact on how I live my life, the decisions I make, and the kind of person I strive to be. I am very proud of the fact that I found a way to turn that difficult experience into a positive. Myself and a team of volunteers created a support packet called THE COMFORT KIT that has supported families in the Kansas City area for over 10 years who have lost a loved one to cancer. It is dedicated to my dad, Pat Johnson, and is my legacy to him.
When I die, I don’t want people talking about my annual salary, the square footage of my house, the kind of car I drove, the kind of clothes I wore, etc. When all is said and done, those things don’t matter to me. I hope people talk about the kind of husband I was, the kind of son I was, the kind of brother I was, the kind of friend I was, my joy of making people laugh, my love of life, my love of The University of Kansas and the Jayhawks, my work helping people and families impacted by cancer. I hope they will celebrate the type of PERSON I was. THAT IS WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO ME. THAT WILL BE MY LEGACY.
