David Ptomey
Hello Class!
Those who knew me back when we graduated knew I went into the U.S. Army. I spent three years in the Army and was stationed at Ft. Riley, KS for 1 and 1/2 years;then Illesheim, Germany for 1 and 1/2 years. When I came back home, I worked hospital security at St. Luke's Hospital (4400 Wornall) for just over two years.
That was where I met my wife Anne O'Hare. She grew up in south Kansas City, MO and graduated high school from Notre Dame De Sion (106th & Wornall). We married in Sept. 1985.
Then in January 1986 I entered the Kansas City, MO Police Department Police Academy, graduating June 6, 1986.
Our first son, Ryan, was a honeymoon baby born in Aug. 1986. Then our second son, Reed, didn't come along for another 8 and 1/2 years in Feb. 1995. Doesn't matter how far you separate them, siblings will still have their squabbles.
There is a residency requirement being with the Kansas City, Mo Police Department, so we are restricted to living in Kansas City, MO. With my wife's family focused in south Kansas City, we elected to stay on the southside as well. The public school systems on the south side are not that stellar so we elected to participate in the Catholic Schools. We've been very pleased with our choice, because both our sons have received an exceptional education. Ryan graduated from Rockhurst High School and is currently a sophomore at Loyola University in Chicago. Reed has been accepted into a Duke University study group based on his excellent testing scores. If you can't tell I'm pretty proud of my sons and had to take a few lines to brag about them.
The Kansas City, MO Police Department has a mandatory 30 years and out retirement system so I have 9 years til they kick me out the door. I'll only be 53 when I have to retire. Unless you go into manual labor (which at 53 I don't think I'll be interested in) most organizations won't look at you without a degree. So, I'm currently attending college through Park University, working on my bachelors in Marketing/Management.
My wife and I have now been married for 21 and 1/2 years, and it seems to get better and we are enjoying eachother more and more every year. One of her brothers lives in Chiswick, England, which is a suburb of London; kind of like Leawood is to Kansas City. He moved there to go to the BBC film school the week after we were married. He liked it so much he decided to stay. What I was getting at was, my wife and I enjoy traveling and like going to Europe for visits. We also enjoy the sun and sand of the Caribbean. We hope to travel even more in the years to come.
Anyway, here it is the end of Mar. 2007. Our 30th Reunion just 3 years away. I thought I would update my profile and try to get the info on this site out amongst our class mates so we can generate some interest in the next reunion. Even though I'm just on the otherside of the metropolitan area, I seem so far away from my old friends and classmates and miss a lot of you. Just wanted to send a Howdy out to ya'll and I hope to see you around or at the next reunion. Til then, Take Care and Best Wishes To You and Yours!
