Today's Featured Biography
Emily Hawkins
What to say....well, I did go to Spring Arbor, Michigan for college and thought I'd just stay up north afterwards, but getting a teaching position in the part of Michigan I was interested in proved impossible. So, I came back to KC and have been teaching 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade at White Church Elementary ever since. I absolutely love the kids, and although the past few years have been more stressful because of the No Child Left Behind assessments that keep piling up, I wouldn't trade professions for the world.
This past year I completed my Masters of Education degree from MidAmerica Nazarene University...it was a fast, 14-month program, that I would highly recommend for any teacher who is just looking to get the extra pay...but as far as content goes, I am SURE there are more challenging programs out there.
This past year I also did something I NEVER thought I'd do--I ran two half marathons. Considering the fact that I had never been a runner prior to training for these things, it was an accomplishment to say the least.
I live in Overland Park....although my heart is still in Wyandotte (it's justified, I teach there, right?!). A friend of mine bought a house and I rent out the basement as my apartment...it's actually a pretty great set up for a single teacher who doesn't want the stress (or expense) of owning her own place.
