THE CLASS OF 1970 WISHES SINCERE CONDOLANCES TO THE FAMILY OF MARY E. SEIDEL
Mary E. Seidel
October 29, 1952 — October 22, 2024
WInamac
Mary E. Seidel,71, of Winamac, a devoted farm wife and loving aunt passed away peacefully at 12:12 p.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Franciscan Health Hospital in Lafayette.
Born on October 29, 1952 in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late Francis “Butch” and Gertrude M. (Meyer) Rausch. Mary was a devoted caregiver for her mother, “Granny.”
She was a Winamac High School graduate of the class of 1970. After high school, Mary enjoyed playing softball as a member of the Rausch Farms women’s softball team with her friends.
On August 16, 1997 she married the love of her life, Thomas E. Seidel, he survives. It did not matter what they were doing, they just enjoyed their time together.
Mary formerly worked for United Telephone for several years. Then later retired from Eastern Pulaski School Corporation after working for 24 years as a custodian.
She enjoyed helping Tom on the farm, driving her Gator, gardening, and collecting antiques. Mary could grow the best pumpkins and gourds. Mary enjoyed spending time at “Pigs.” Mary enjoyed cheering on her nieces and nephews in their sporting events. Mary was a very talented cook and was famous for her Heavenly Bars and gumbo.
Mary will be greatly missed by her family. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Seidel of Winamac, brothers, F. David Rausch (Linda), and Larry Rausch (Cloretta) of Winamac and sisters, Helen Rausch of Logansport, Joyce Kelsey of Iowa and brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Marilyn Kreiger of Valparaiso and Allen and Shelia Seidel of Winamac. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, John Rausch, Daniel Rausch and Mose Rausch and sister, Gertrude “Trudy” Kruzick.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Winamac Chapel, 110 N. Sally Dr., Winamac.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

Just recently, I began a search on ancestry.com to identify the persons in an old family photograph. Nearly 4 months, (and nearly 2000 persons later), I have discovered that my family tree roots are fairly deep, especially on the Poor(and Poore) side of my family. In Pulaski County alone, I have identified seven (7) generations of Poors, and fourteen (14) generations of my ancestors in this country, going back to one hundred years BEFORE the revolutionary war (circa 1664).
Yes, I was born in Logansport (because we didn't have a hospital), spent two years in Winamac, 6 years in Jefferson township, then back to Winamac from the middle of the third grade on. After graduating from THE greatest class in the history of our high school, I attended Purdue University, graduating with a BA in Liberal Arts, with a major in Sociology, and minors in Economics and English. During this time, I found the love of my life...where else??....at the old A & P parking lot! I had seen Judy's picture in the Pulaski County Journal as the first eighteen year old to register to vote in Pulaski County.
We were married ar the First Christian Church in Winamac on May 26, 1973. Our son, Michael was born on May 13, 1975, and our daughter, Leslie joined the family on April 18, 1977. I worked briefly for the water department for the Town of Winamac after graduation, then was hired by Farm Bureau Insurance as a claims adjuster, then by George Zahrt of Winamac ad a warehouse manager for Tippecanoe Beverages.
Three years later, I was hired as General Manager of Winamac Beverages, and in 1980, joined with my best friend (and classmate) Kent Kruzick, to begin my ultimate career journey into dental supply sales by forming a start up company, K-C Professional Supply.
The economic realities of the '80s forced me to seek other opportunities, and in December, 1984, I was hired by Patterson Dental Company (Minneapolis, Mn) to work as a sales representative fofirst their South Bend store, then their Indianapolis store. With the exception of a 20 month mistake in leaving for a competitor, my career choice with Patterson resulted in a career of about 29 years total. I retired in 2016.
Our son joined the Peace Corp after graduating from Eastern Pulaski schools, and Hanover College in southern Indiana. He served in Paraguay, S.A, as an education facilitator, and met his wife during orientation. She was (is) from Watertown, Massachusetts, and they were married there in 2002. They now live in Cambridge, Massachusetts with three children, two boys and a girl.
Our daughter was married in Winamac to a local boy after graduation from Eastern Pulaski Schools, and a BA from Indiana University-South Bend. they have three children, one boy and twin girls. They live in Winamac, and own a local solid waste equipment dealership.
I've served on several community boards in Winamac, with the most challenging being th Pulaski Memorial Hospital Board for the past nine years. Healthcare is a totally different kettle of fish, as is said by any who have worked/served within this profession.
That is more than enough about me; we are still here in Winamac, still married (soon to be 45 years!) and still stirring things up to keep life interesting!
