Every other month we have a luncheon at 1:00 p.m. at one of the New Castle restaurants (usually Mancino's). It is always the last Saturday of the month. Our next one will be Sept. 26, 2026.(

Today's Featured Biography
Michael Atkins
Went to work for Chrysler Corporation on August 10, 1964. Had two children by that time. Tracy Jo born September 29, 1963 and Michael Jr. born July 27, 1964. Worked as a machine operator, inspector, janitor during the 36 years 5 months I was employed. Became a Union Representative (Recording Secretary in 1969, Vice President in 1971, Plant Shop Committeeman in 1973 and Recording Secretary from 1978 until 1987. Sharon worked at Chrysler from 1973 until 1979. During that time we had another child, Gretchen Renea on November 22, 1979. Sharon was subsequently laid off for 15 years before being recalled to Chrysler where she retired on December 31, 2003. During the time I was a Union Representative I was appointed as a Facilitator under our new Team Concept in 1987 until 1999. I was forced out of that position and went back to the floor as a inspector until they eliminated any job I could perform. I had to retire due to no work available with my history of heart problems in February 2001. Became very active in New Castle Babe Ruth Baseball League in 2003 as President for 3 years. Resigned that position after three years but stayed on as Secretary. I am still holding that position along with Treasurer.
Sharon and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary on March 2, 2013. On March 3, 2014 (a day after our 51st anniversary we received a great gift. Sharon was called to IU Health and received 2 new lungs. Although she was in the hospital for 82 days she is doing fine and doesn't have to use any oxygen. GOD IS SO GOOD.As we grow a few years old, complications have begun setting in with the lungs. She experienced a decline in those lungs along with numerous other health related problems and went to be with the Lord on August 20, 2019. I ASK FOR YOUR LOVE AND PRAYERS. I still get around with oxygen. we do stay relative close to our home. We have 8 grandchildren ranging from the age of 38 to 2 years. Out of the 8 there is only 1 girl age 24 and she is studying to become a Doctor.
