A positive thought about reunions

Charles Brown
Left Van immediately after graduation. Four of us, Carl, Gary, myself, and one other enlisted into the military. We had planned to use our last summer after graduation as a vacation and enter in September when school started again. That was our arrangement, we thought. Evidently the recruiter had an hidden agenda 'cause one week after graduation we were in St. Louis being processed. After spending several years in the military I was Honorably discharged in FT. Worth,Tx.. There I remained for most of my life working for various companies, rising in position and responsibilities as I matured into the business. My travels were no exotic but I did live in Canada, Colorado, and back to Texas traveling for the business. I was married in '73 to Jo Ann. Please do not assume this is my brother Bill's wife Jo Ann. Just a coincidence I guess but we do have a riot when we're all together. Remember, he married Jo Ann Gerkin! I moved back to Van in the mid 90's and my wife "raised" my parents while I worked. After they passed on we returned to East Texas where I began a business of grinding stumps clearing land. Thus, the strange e-mail name. I also got involved with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and retired at the age of 70 after about nine years. I rose to the rank of Sgt. during this time. To my delight my health is good and I still enjoy my business when called upon. Figure I'm good for another 30/40 years! With all my children, grandchildren, great grandchildresn etc.,etc.,etc., my clan is at 29 as of today. Sorry I haven't been in contact with all but a few knew; that's how I was found. Last note, I "stole" my wife out of Cleburne, Tx.! I still cannot beat Joe Tate or his brother at ping pong! LUV U ALL Later, CB
UPDATED AUG 2017
'94 brought me back to Vandalia. Brought mother home from hospital and kept parents out of nursing home until the last. While living in Vandalia at that time I was District Manager for Huck's Food & Fuel. My wife raised my parents during this time and she also became Office Manager for the nursing home where we had to place them for their last few months. '99 relocated back to Texas to my current home. Started a stump grinding business which is still going. Retired from the Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice. At the age of 70 I resigned. As my children and grand children continue to add to the membership of this family I have decided to relinquish the control to them. Have a wonderful day everyone!! cb
