Today's Featured Biography
Joe Mabry
I seriously regret not attending any of the previous reunions. Whatever I was doing that I thought was so important, really wasn’t. Although I have been living a Los Angeles lifestyle for so many years, acquiring new tastes and interests, Vandalia and the Vandalia life style remain very appealing to me. And I often think about my friends, relatives, parents and the idyllic days I spent there.
I retired in 1999 after 32 years of working at TRW as manager of a missile guidance and targeting software project. My fiancé, Kitty, and I now live in San Gabriel, near Los Angeles. Kitty came to California from Taiwan in 1980 and she is an accounting manager for an oil trading firm. Hopefully she will retire soon so we can do more traveling. Although we have briefly visited Asia, Europe and South America, there are many other good destinations, lessons to learn, sights to see, and cultures to appreciate.
I have a sore shoulder, so we don’t play golf, tennis or dance anymore, opting instead for walking, light-exercise and the stock market. Kitty raises orchids and I raise Cain. We have two pets: Tweedy Browne, a talkative red-bellied parrot, and Chester, a Burmese cat. I have one grandson and all three of my children live nearby. Their mother is the former Karen Stanley of Vandalia. We have been friends with Karen and her husband, Cecil, for years.
A final note: I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1999 and I researched the subject to decide how to treat it. Today I have been cured for seven years. If anyone is concerned about prostate cancer, I would be happy to tell you what I learned and to share some of my strong opinions with you.
