Today's Featured Biography
Jeff Glade
After graduating OTHS, I went on to IVCC, where I met my now wife of 22 years, Patricia. I went on to Illinois State for a year, but after the birth of my oldest daughter Jessica, I opted for the working world. I was in retail management until my second daughter, Erin, was born in 1989, when I decided it was time to return to college, get a degree and get a career that could provide better for my family. My wife and I then went to Eastern Illinois, graduating in 1994 with a BA in Journalism.
I then went to work back in Ottawa at The Daily Times, working as a sports writer. I steadily moved up, becoming Assistant Sports Editor in 1997 and then Sports Editor in 1999. I held that job until 2005, when I was named Sports Editor of The Times -- the new newspaper created by the merger of The Daily Times and the Streator Times-Press. I stayed in that position until 2006, when the stress of what was becoming a very messy merger put me in the hospital with blood pressure through the roof. On March 1, 2006, I decided that even a job I loved was not worth my life and I resigned from The Times.
Fortunately, my wife's job with BP in Naperville provided well enough that I could take a significant amount of time off. It took several months to get my blood pressure and the other associated problems it caused under control. I also took advantage of the time and have written several short stories and also wrote my first novel (now I just need to edit my first novel so I might be able to shop it to a publisher).
In 2007, we moved to Aurora, reducing my wife's commute from 90 minutes each way from Ottawa to just 10 minutes each way. I have also returned to work, returning to my retail background with a job at PetSmart in Wheaton -- although I still occationally do some freelance writing. Life is now much less stressful and with so much less commuting, my wife and I get to spend more time together now than we probably have at almost any other point in our marriage.
Things are going very well, as we're still adjusting to being largely empty nesters. My oldest daughter is now a senior at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, double majoring in English and Rhetoric and following in Dad's footsteps by writing sports for the Daily Illini (she's currently on the women's swimming and diving beat). The younger daughter is a sophomore at Iowa State in Ames, majoring in both Sports Medicine and pre-Physical Therapy. We're taking advantage of the time alone to do some traveling, including a trip to England last June, spending most of two weeks in London and Manchester before hopping over to Hamburg, Germany to spend a long weekend with some friends. Very strongly considering doing a similar trip in late spring 2009, possibly going north into Scotland this time.
As of now, that pretty much brings us up to date...

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
