Today's Featured Biography
Richard Reeves
After graduating SDHS I went to Millikin for two years, transferred to St. Olaf in Minnesota for a year, and came back to finish at MU once I realized that 6 months of snow, ice and freezing temperatures did not work for me. I then worked for a year before heading to University of Missouri/Columbia for grad school(human physiology). Again it took about a year for the realization to settle in that working in a lab doing non-stop research was not my calling.
Next stop on my disjointed career path was in restaurant management. I had gotten some brief experience while in grad school working to support myself. Over the next four years I worked for Gilbert/Robinson, Inc. opening and managing Houlihan's in St. Louis; Encino, Long Beach, San Francisco, and San Diego, California. When G/R said my next move was going to be east I decided I wanted to stay west. The highlight of my time with Houlihan's was meeting Marilyn, with whom I will celebrate 43 years of marriage this August. After another stint with a small southern CA seafood chain, I took a job with a wholesaler of wine & spirits . Three years later I went to work for Kenwood and settled on a career. I worked for Kenwood Vineyards for 26 years, the final 12 years as US and International Sales Manager. In Spring 2014 I assisted in piloting the winery through a sale to wine & spirits powerhouse Pernod-Ricard. I then joined the sales team at Castle Rock Winery as SVP/National Sales Manager for a 2 year 9 month stint. Retirement began in March 2017.
Megan came along in 1985 and Erin in 1988 making our family foursome complete. Our daughters are like all of your children, the best kids imaginable. Megan graduated from Occidental College in Biochemistry, did a two year stint with Teach for America, and went on to medical school at UCLA graduating in May 2013. She was married in the same month to her longtime college sweetheart, Ryan Murphy. They are now in East Richmond Heights, CA where Megan is Pediatrician for Prima Health a part of the UCSF hospital system. Our grandson, Kieran was born in April 2020.
Erin graduated from Pomona College in May 2010, spending the remainder of that year traversing the countryside working for the Worldwide Organization of Organic Farms. She returned to California and moved to Berkeley where she has spent the past 11 years working on Food and Housing Justice Issues in the Oakland and San Francisco metropolitan area. She began Graduate Studies pursing her MFT degree and license in the Fall of 2022.
Many thanks to Gerry, Mark, Chris , and the rest of the committee once again for putting in the time and effort to make our 50th reunion weekend the memorable time it decidedly was!I am really looking forward to seeing many of you once again in 2024 !
