Today's Featured Biography
Carol Olson Bertram
My husband Tim and I have been married for 51 years. We have two daughters, Tara (50) and Kim (47). Kim is the mother of our two grandkids, Dalton (almost 22) and his sister Maclayn (just turned 18). They are a delight.
I returned to SLHS in 1973 for night classes from Mr. Moody in preparation for my GED. I took the test at BV and passed with flying colors. Fred's dad (Dean Wesslink) said it was one of the highest scores he had seen. So there, I just tooted my own horn. He suggested college, but I was not interested. I wish now that I would have taken some art classes, because I love being creative. My passion is making things. I love quilting, and working with beautiful hand dyed wool is my favorite. The past several months I have found beach glass from Storm Lake (all different colors) and created pendants using sterling wire, beads, and charms. Each one is different, and I have sold dozens of them.
I was a banker with Citizens First National Bank in Storm Lake for 26 years. I started as a teller, and became an officer. The last 13 years of my career I was the director of our senior travel club. We traveled all over the U.S. including 3 different cruises, Carribean, Alaskan inside passage, and Panama Canal. It was a wonderful part of my job, but at the end of 2000 I retired at 55 and don't regret a minute of it. Retirement is terrific. I highly recommend it.
In 2009 I had a battle with cancer, but I WON. Life is good, and I am so happy to be here. You are all a part of my life, and I cherish your friendships. If anyone wants to get in touch with me this is how.
