Today's Featured Biography
Mary Goodwin Sorensen
After graduation, I attended Evangelical School of Nursing in Marshalltown and received my Diploma in Nursing. While in Nursing School I met and married my husband -Jerry Sorensen.
We moved to Storm Lake where we lived most of our married life. We spent 4 years in Omaha, NE. As Jerry shared with everyone, we were still Iowans we just lived on the other side of the river. We moved to Panora in 2004 near Jerry's early stomping grounds of Guthrie Center.
In October 2008 Jerry passed away after a short illness of pancreatic cancer.
I have 3 children: Angie, JJ and Janelle. They all live with 1 1/2 to 2 hours of me. I have 7 grandchildren ranging in ages from 20 to 8. I enjoy being able to spend time with my family and being able to attend the grandkids school and sport activities. I have 2 football players, a basketball player, a wrestler, 2 golfers, a swimmer, a long distance runner, 2 dancers and a cheerleader of football and wrestling.
Most of my nursing career has been in the hospital setting -mostly at Buena Vista County Hospital. I worked in a physician's clinic for a short time in Omaha. The last 16 years I was in Storm Lake and my 13 years at Telligen have been in quality improvement in the hospital and nursing home settings. I am moving toward retirement by starting 3 days a week the end of September. I am looking forward to having time for scrapbooking, sewing, traveling and spending time with my family.
