Today's Featured Biography
Jeanne Simonsen Larson
September 2013
After graduating from business school in ’64, my first job was at Buena Vista College. I left that job and Iowa when Randy and I got married, January 1966. He’d already spent four years in the Navy on submarines, so I “enlisted” (or got drafted) for the next four years.
We started in Charleston, SC, transferring to New London, CT to dry dock for a year. Ryan Allan was born there in September 1967. We then transferred back to Charleston until discharge in October ’69. Kristine Denise was born 2 weeks before we got out! Whew.
We followed good friends to Texas, first settling in Irving. We moved to Plano in ’71, then ending up in Waco in 1983. This is our 44th year in Texas. WE ARE TEXANS!!!
Ryan and his wife own a successful graphic arts firm in Dallas. Kris and her husband are mortgage brokers here in Waco.
We have three incredible grandchildren. Erica, 25, and her husband live near Denton. They will present us with our second GREAT granddaughter, Hayden Quinn, due Christmas Day.
Reece, 22, and his wife live here in Waco with our first GREAT grandchild, Kynslee Nyree, 1 1/2. Reece graduates this December from TSTC, so don’t know where the job market will take them.
Zachary, 16, is a junior in high school. He’s active in sports, and keeps everyone entertained. He can twist you around his little finger faster than anyone I’ve ever seen!
Randy and I are both still working and will as long as we’re able and still enjoy our jobs. We’ve both had some health issues, but overall doing well. Randy had a near fatal heart attack two years ago, but was smart enough to have it at the VA hospital in the waiting room during a regular appointment. They got to him right away and with shock and CPR were able to bring him back. He had surgery, 5 bypasses and a valve repair, and has been doing great since.
I’ve had back problems for years, deteriorating disks. I had my fourth surgery this February and just got out of my back brace last week. I was diagnosed with Stage “0” breast cancer two years ago. It was discovered during a regular mammogram. I was very lucky and only had to have a lumpectomy and radiation treatments. So I’m now 2 years cancer free.
Other than spending time down at South Padre Island, we’re real home bodies. Our home is our haven. After 30 years in our house, I almost have it exactly the way I want it, for now. But I’m sure there will be another project down the road, just don’t tell Randy!
Overall, we’ve had a blessed life.
I look forward to hearing about former classmates. (However, I still don’t think we’re old enough to be having a 50 year reunion!!!)
