Today's Featured Biography
John Steeger
Updated this bio May 2016: Graduated from UF in 1971 and married Diane Sironi from North Miami Beach. My BS was in Math and Diane's in Medical Technology. Received Masters in Math from University of Louisville in 1973 and entered the US Air Force and moved to Gulfport, Mississippi (Keesler AFB). Chris (son) born there Jan 1976. Diane and I taught youth Sunday School and sang in the choir and I was ordained a deacon in 1975. Moved to Colorado Springs (our desire of where to live) in 1977 and Greg was born at the AF Academy Hospital. taught 7th grade SS and sang in the choir and served as a deacon. Bought some property west of the Springs in the Rockies (important later on). 1980, moved to Seattle where I worked with Boeing with the AF Education with Industry program for 10 months. Taught junior high SS and sang in the choir. Feb 1981 Diane found out she had breast cancer and had surgery and stated chemo. Moved to Scott AFB, Il (near St Louis) in summer 1981. Taught high school SS and sang in the choir and served as deacon. Diane passed away in April 1983. Married Pat Hallin of Kent, Washington in June 1984 - she actually babysat Chris and Greg in her church nursery when we visited there while living in Seattle, not knowing she'd be their mother years later. July 1984 moved to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada where I was a USAF Foreign Exchange Officer with the Canadian Forces. Loved Ottawa, our church (taught SS and sang in the choir (both of us) and served as an elder), my assignment, and the people. Amy was born there in Sep 1987 - dual citizenship, and proud to be Canadian! Oh, attended the 20 reunion in St Augustine while Pat was pregnant - only pregant one there, I think. Moved back to Colorado Springs in August 1988 - both Pat and my choice of where to live. Taught SS and sang in the choir and served as deacon. Retired from the AF in August 1993 and then worked as a system engineer for 12 years supporting AF Space Command. Built a "cabin" on the property Diane and I bought in 1979 in 1995/6. Retired second (and final time) in Feb 2005 and loving it! Added on to the cabin (now 3,000 sq ft on 2.4 acres in the Colorado Rockies) and moved here permanently in May 2006. Chris, now 40 and married, lives in Colorado Springs and works At Buckley AFB, Denver. Greg (38), married with our three grandkids (Kassidy 12 and Landon 10, and Braydon 4) is a Lt Col in the AF and lives in Navarre, FL. He taught at the Academy for last three years, then the AF sent him to Colorado School of Mines for his PhD. Will return to AF Academy 2017 to teach. Amy graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas, and lives near Dallas. Pat and I love to travel (recently sold fifth wheel after 40 years of RVs and bought little cabin in Pigeon Forge, TN) and are still very active in our church - one in Colorado and one in Arizona as we are now snowbirds spending half the year in Sun City, AZ. In 2007 Pat finished a year of surgeries, tests, chemo and radiation, and has been cancer free since - PTL! My folks passed away in 2008 and 2011. My younger sister, Nancy Babston lives near High Springs. My older brother, Bill, is a retired pastor/missionary/professor and lives Texarkana. I'm proud of my roots at GHS and Gainesville, but love living in Colorado and Arizona! Come for a visit, or email me at: [email protected] I wrote my autobiography, so if anyone is interested, I can send a CD. It's 140 pages with over 500 pictures embedded, making it 200 meg. You may be in it!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
