Today's Featured Biography
Steve Van Horn
Graduated CU 1964 in English, four years with US Navy flying in F-4 Phantom jets from aircraft carriers in Vietnam war, graduated CU 1973 in Civil Engineering. Moved to Alaska 1974 with consulting firm during pipeline era, then worked for Alaska DOT until retirement in 2001. Favorite work was designing airports for rural native villages.
Married 1973, divorced 1987, no children. Remarried 1992 to Jan acquiring two young stepchildren in the process. Tough adjustment for all, but very worthwhile. Still waiting for grandchildren (one more respect in which I still trail my high school class).
Sold our house in Alaska 2007 and began full time travel mode in fifth wheel trailer. Winters in southwestern desert from New Mexico to California, summers in Portland visiting both kids and in-laws, Colorado in the fall to visit mother (90 years old now) and sisters.
We are now legal residents of South Dakota, although address listed is just a mail forwarding service. Alaska is too far away for renewing a drivers license or doing other administrative activities, SD has liberal residency requirements, and the Black Hills are a nice place to visit.
Traveling in the lower 48 makes it easier to keep in touch with people here, and there are plenty of interesting places to go. We'll stop traveling when we get tired of it. At this point it's still fun.
Jan and I have enjoyed the chance to meet people who are here for the reunion activities. Now that we have current contact information I will try to do a better job of keeping in touch.
