Today's Featured Biography
Martha McDaniel Hagler
My bio starts at the end. . .with a beginning. . .
I am living in Novato with the Love of My Life who just happens to be fellow classmate Ed McKee. We came together last year after forty years, and we've been saying, "What took us so long?" ever since!
A lot of years have evaporated between 1967 and 2007, and I did do some living in between. I graduated from Sac State with a secondary teaching credential in English, and I have essentially been in high school since--well, since high school--attempting to teach literature, writing, grammar (you all remember that stuff, don't you?) to still-reluctant juniors and seniors. Eventually, they came around. Twenty years of high school kids are now functioning literates thanks to " The Hag" or "Hagler" as I came to be affectionately known (once they dropped the "Mrs." I knew I had 'em!)
Except for a ten-year period living in Lomita (LA county) where my daughter Jennifer was born, I lived twenty-four of the past forty years in San Luis Obispo: Middle Kingdom, The Enchanted Coast, God's Country (yeah, yeah, some of you are laying claim to that, too, but in the case of SLO, it IS true!). Those twenty years of teaching--full-time, subbing, night school--were done in San Luis Coastal District schools.
Not only did I teach in San Luis, I also wore a kilt, played the bagpipes, and marched in a pipe band. Oh, I rode a red Harley, too. If you don't believe me, just ask John and Glenda Rorabaugh. They have proof of both activities. Yes, good times in SLO.
My daughter, Jennifer, is married and is the mother of my two granddaughters, Madison Leilani (7yrs) and Isabella Rae (7 mos). My son Chris is not married and has no children, but he does have a delightful girlfriend, Chrissy. I'm hoping they'll marry and have kids!
Time marches on. . .Ed and I got in touch through Classmates.com and e-mailed for a few months. He was living in San Rafael, I in San Luis. Last March, the fifth to be exact, we had our first date: he picked me up at my mom's and we went to a movie--Wild Hogs--and later, pizza at Napoli. Just like high school but with no curfew!!! Two months later we were looking for a condo in Novato. The rest is history, happy, happy history.
No, the rest is really the beginning. . .

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
