Today's Featured Biography
Gloria Nuanes Merino
For as shy as I was in high school, that all ended when we graduated. I found my place when I met my future husband at Skyline Jr. College. He was 24 and I was 18. He had returned from Viet Nam a couple of years earlier and was very funny and intense. This year we will be married 30 years. The first person I dated, I married. It's been a good life but I wouldn't have wanted my kids to do the same.
We have two dogs Penny (she just celebrated her 15th birthday on 4/20/08,) and Cookie a 10 year old Chihauhau. Penny is a Yellow Lab and Golden mix, but she looks like a pure lab. Cookie looks like a fat "Taco Bell." We also have a 6 year old Himalayan mix cat. She has an love obsession with Manuel.
I just recently returned to the work force, at the new See's Candy Shop in Vacaville. I work part time as a sales person. For years I have volunteered at the schools, and I have always given away candy to the kids. My son recently stated to me that I now get paid for what I have been doing for years. Not being a candy lover myself, I was not aware of the affect chocolate has on people. It is amazing. This has to one of the funnest job around. When people come in, we offer them a sample which puts everyone in a great mood and then they seem to have so much fun picking out candy. I must say the Christmas and Valentine's Day's were an experience.
My daughter is returning home after being gone for 5 years. She graduated from college in 12/07. She is going to save up some funds and get a place of her own.
My son decided in 8/07 not to return to college. He had just completed in junior year at SF State. He decided to join the pipe fitters union. He is 24 and says that he will get his degree. I can only hope so.
My parents still live in the same house in SSF. I talk to JoAnn (Newman) Wall every couple of days. We met in 5th grade. It was so comforting to have someone who knows you. I also talk to Hilda (Colon) Jackson every couple of days. I was her matron on honor in 1985 when she got married. She has always been a great friend.

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
