Timothy Konti Marxer
WHEREAS, Timothy Marxer, Senior Clerk for the Department of General Services retired on July 4, 2009 after 21 years of outstanding service to the citizens of Los Angeles; and
WHEREAS, Timothy began his career in 1987 as a Gardener/Caretaker for the Department of Recreation and Parks; and
WHEREAS, Timothy promoted to Senior Gardener in 1988; and
WHEREAS, Timothy, as a result of his groundbreaking in water conservation, was transferred to the Resource Conservation Unit of the General Services Department in 1995; and
WHEREAS, Timothy was legally employed as a Senior Clerk and was affectionately referred to as “The Field Investigator”, due to his goal of searching for opportunities to reduce the cost and consumption of water by Council controlled City Departments; and
WHEREAS, Timothy’s efforts have been recognized by the Los Angeles Times on August 14, 1995 in an article devoted to his work, the Water Meter Separation program; and
WHEREAS, Timothy received many commendations for his diligent work in Resource Conservation from City Council members including Joel Wachs a Laura Chick who pointed out that Timothy’s work resulted in saving the City $5.5 million per year in utility costs; and
WHEREAS, Timothy developed, on his own initiative, the Water Meter Separation Program known as the “Re-Meter and Pay Less: Water Re-Metering Program” which received the 2006-2007 Quality and Productivity Commission’s Quality and Productivity Award in the Cost Savings category for his dedicated vision, innovation and teamwork in developing and delivering a new program; and
WHEREAS, Timothy’s continuing efforts to find ways to save the citizens of the City of Los Angeles money on utility costs have resulted in an ever increasing dollar amount in annual savings in the Water and Electric Fund:
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, by adoption of this resolution, the Mayor, City Attorney, City Controller and the Los Angeles City Council honor and congratulate TIMOTHY MARXER on his retirement as Senior Clerk after 21 years of exceptional and outstanding service to the City of Los Angeles.
