Today's Featured Biography
Joseph Bologna
For those of you who did not get to know me I was born in a small fishing village called Trappeto, near Palermo Sicily,we immagrated to the United States in 1958,so at the time of our graduation I had only been in this country for only 13 years and not even an American citizen. I lived in Millbrae the first 4 years and I attended Lomita Park Elementary. When we moved to San Bruno where met Dale Wilson (God rest his soul), Dave Nelson (he left after our soph year, Bob Hager and many other really great friends going back to Bellaire and Parkside.
Before I graduated I met this beautiful 100% Italian girl who had just moved from New Jersey and living in Pleasanton CA. our families spoke the same language and had the same cultures.
While attending Skyline JC in Feb of 1972 after my 18th birthday I received my notice to do my 18 month conscript military time in Italy,
I got help from the Italian consulate to get me out of the Italian Army. I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force to see the world so I got stationed at Travis AFB 40 miles from home. In 1974 I got my new orders for England, so rather than wait for me to get out of the military (against both our parents wishes) I married my Italian soul mate and three weeks later we shipped off to Raf Bentwaters-Woodbridge England for a three year honeymoon. For the first time we were alone with no strict parents or family! It was a life experience that has made us solid for 46years! (her parents did forgive me many years later) I also did a 6 month tour at Sembach Air Base in Germany.
I was discharged in 1977 and I am proud to say that I became an American citizen! I immediately got a job with Georgia Pacific in SSF as a Rate Freight Clerk. Great job the pay was good, we moved to Walnut Creek. and I commuted for 3 years until the recession of 1980. While I was laid off I took the US Postal test and got hired in 1981 with the Walnut Creek Post office. We were blessed with one beautiful daughter in 1982; she is the first and only in my family to graduate from college (San Francisco State 2005). She is married, works in Walnut Creek and lives in Martinez and we have beautiful 3 year old grandson! I just retired after 43 years with the postal service.
I would like to end this long Bio by thanking my good friends I mentioned above for all the good times and excepting this immigrant boy into their lives, but also to Coach Kent along with his encouragement helped me to lose over 60lbs during my junior year, Dave Alexander for getting me my first job making candy by waking up at 5am before school and working after school until 9pm and also for the weekend at Chico State, to Steve Trueman for a great classy dinner at his house on prom night with our dates, Ron Brown for breaking his arm and giving me the chance to start every game, to the person (I will not mention your name) who got me in trouble with the San Bruno police, the vice principle along with my father for having beer in the trunk of your car at a school dance without my knowledge , and last to Coach John Browne a good man who believed in me and taught me courage and toughness when I needed it.
To Liz Ng: grazie per tutto quello che fate!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
