Today's Featured Biography

Arthur Edmonds Jr

Accepted to UC Davis, where I met my Best Friend. Didn't keep my promise to myself to get my Ph.D. first, then get married. When I found my one true love, it was ridiculous to artificially wait until a future Event.

So, before my bachelor's degree, Patti & I were married in Oakland in 1974. This was the best thing I ever did or will do, with the possible exception of bringing my two Sons, Arthur III & Jonathan (Jon) into the world. Patti & I are together 39 -years and married for 37-years this September 14th.

Got my Master's degree soon after and was advanced to candidacy for my doctorate (called a Ph.C.). However, I put all of that on hold to get into Business & Information Technology Security (InfoSec). This proved to be the story of my life: changing careers like Imelda Marcos changed her shoes ;-)

Fast Forward: Worked for various Silicon Valley companies and founded a few Start-ups on the way: WebHarbor.com, the first Web 2.0 SaaS ASP to hit The Internet.

Co-Founded The Silicon Valley Information Business Exchange: www.sviba.org Co-Founder & Chairman of the Board - SVIBA.org is focused on exchanging both business and technology resources between the United States of America and Asia, especially the greater China regions and five (5) Technology Centres. Sounds great, yeah? No, not really ... Another Career Change:went back to my own IT Security Management Consulting firm after too much travel to Japan per month (I became a zombie ... some say I still am :-) ).

Another 'However', though. The recent "Recession" (read here The Depression of 2008-10) has impacted my business ... so much so that I'm entertaining going back on the job market, feverishly working to find a cool company to work with. I'm getting tired of being Chief Cook & Bottle Washer; that is: being responsible for all facets of a Consulting Business: Sales, Business Development, Marketing, PR, Design, Architecture, M&A, Implementation, QA + Test, Documentation, and Training (Whew! I even get tired writing about this!)

Family:

Arthur III is engaged to a wonderful woman (Lauren) and lives in Hollywood where he is Scout, Locations Director, and any other thing he needs to do for "NCIS: Los Angeles". He's having a ton of fun there and is also getting gigs singing at clubs, and having his photography works shown at galleries (OK, 1 gallery for now ;-) ).

Arthur & Lauren are to be married towards the end of this year: 10 December, 2011.

Jonathan has just been granted an internship (yep ... no pay, but Management does hire from this pool of resources) at the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department of Latent Fingerprints. Jon was singled out by Management as one of two Interns to watch and that will succeed there. His Bio degree (B.Sc.) with Chem minor and Forensics Sciences is slowly paying off towards a paying job. Update: On Christmas Day, 2010, Jon proposed to his High School Sweetheart. She accepted. Marriage Date = TBD. Jon want he and his fiance to be gainfully employed.

Both boys are Eagle Scouts. I am still an Adult Scout Leader & on the Piedmont Council Board of Directors, and have operated in various capacities (usually Program positions) since 1984.

Patti is an Associate VP of Private Banking (don't know anything about what she really does beyond her title) at Wells Fargo Bank here ay the Piedmont Branch. And I am very proud of her as she is her Branch's and Region's Top Performer consistently from quarter-to-quarter and year-over-year. Three things help her in her continuing successes: Patti Grew up in Piedmont, was a Piedmont Real Estate Agent for over 15-years, and she knows everyone in this small City of 3,000 homes. I am known as "Patti's Husband" ... just like when the kids were in Elementary School.

Me: whenever I get the chance (not much - too busy) & have the disposable income (not so much recently - Oh, well), I love to go (in order of desire) flying, scuba diving, and golfing. And since I can't find the time to go golfing regulary, my Handicap is way up there (36 is the max, yeah?).

I also am passionate about Flying (SEL & MEL VFR - couldn't afford Instrument Rating - IFR, so learned to trust 'the seat of my pants' with the exception of when the fog & clouds offer zero visibility - then I trust my instruments explicitly).

I am also a PADI Rescue Diver & Master Diver - love Monterey Bay and love more Hawai'i & the Caribbean more (warmer). I used to be a Rescue & Recovery Diver for the local County Sheriff's Department, but quit due to the fact that I rarely found a live person to rescue ... only recovery ops. Depressing. So went back to the fun side of SCUBA and will never leave it.

Well, that's more than enough for now (TMI, yeah?). I look forward to seeing you all soon and catching up some 40-years worth of life experiences, at least those milestones you're willing to share! ;-)

All The Best To You and Your Families. I'm excited to be seeing you all after all these years, and I wish you all nothing but the best.

Cheers,

Art
