15may12 update for our 50th reunion

Having fun in semi-retirement. Still consulting, volunteering, hobbies and seeing where this now TWO year relationship is going.

On several non-profit boards. Self Help for the Elderly, EDGE (eco development for San Mateo), President of San Mateo United {umbrella for all associations in SM}, Adult Edu and a couple others.

Attended CSM, changed majors a few times, then left to become a partner in a small motor controls company.
Then partnerships in several small controls companies on the Peninsula till decided to
work for a larger company in the valley.

Designed controls for TVA dams, Nuclear power stations, military (Army, Navy,
Airforce, black badge stuff), NASA, and other industries (automotive, shipboard,
people movers, wood, plastic, steel, food, ski-lifts, sewage treatment plants, etc).
Even windgenerators & geothermal generators. Motor controls, robotics,
process controls, factory automation, etc.

Sun Microsystems was my longest term and largest employer. Project Manager at
SunFed, moved to corporate Engineering manager, Program Manager and my last
position as Business Development Manager (not the sale kind, but corporate) in the
M&A group. Assigned to various exec's & GM's staff and special assignments. Loved
working for the corporate CTO and his SunLabs. Bought many companies (Cray
Research and that made Sun over $14.4B) and lots of IP for Sun. After +15 years, they
laid me off in 2001 Nov.

Semi retirement. Mainly taking care of both my parents, running their estate and in my
spare time partner in a startup (3D medical imaging).

Re-inventing myself and thinking general contractor or some such flipping houses.
Dad forced me to work on the dumps he bought for a song when I was in my teens, but have to say I'm now able to build a
house. Not offically trained, but did all that kind of work back then.

Divorcing after 32 years of marriage. 34 counting dating. 33 years by the time the
divorice is final.

Great daughters (30 and 24). Kelley lives in Huntington Beach and has gone back to
college. She is switching from animals to people (operating room nurse/technican). Brigitte has switched majors (civil
engineering, psychology, chemical engineering and one more can't remember). She's now a manager at Nordstroms Palo
Alto.

Depression for a looooong time and of course didn't know it. Just coming out of
it and getting back to myself. Dolores posted the above picture I sent her, it's from sister Gloria's second wedding in
April 2006.

Volleyball 5 nites a week for a while, but cut back to 2 nites now. IVL, Nikkei and
JACL leagues.

Back to bicycling, used to ride down to Santa Cruz on highway 1. Both mountain and
road bikes. By the end of this summer, goal is to ride over to Halfmoon Bay Saturday
mornings, have breakfast, hang a while to digest, then ride back for coffee down town
San Mateo to finish around 10am. Then have the rest of day to do errands, or work on
the new house or other houses.

Bought a new house (fixer uppper, other sister bought it 'cuz can't have anything
in my name till the divorce is a done deal). Am also buying out soon to be ex-
sweetie. Will rent it back to her ! How's that for going in full circle?!?

Both daughters ride sport bikes and want me to buy one. Scaredie-cat about other
drivers (cars), but am noodling it.

Always been working on cars of some sort. Got into off roading during high school.
Currently rebuilding my first brand new car, a 1970 Datsun 240Z. Just finished
rebuilding my workshop over at dad's. It's a 3 car garage facing the back alley on his
house he forced me to help build when I was in high school. Now love that he forced me back then.

Above hot link to photo is at Kelley's first B-Day. Still had hair back then. I'll
change/rotate links to other pic's after I find some more. [06july18 edit]...added tag
to the picture.

06jun18 edit....
Trying to see if this site will allow tagging a link to pictures in this text:

Picture is of a bunch of us Suburban owners back in 2004 going through the Stillen R&D
labs (checking out their new braking product designs).

A 350Z proto-type Whipple stuffed into that too small of engine bay:

Another of us having lunch on Balboa Island:

Here's one of a fence designed and built over at my parents house and this is viewed
from their neighbors side. Over engineered and built on purpose to allow me to teach my kids and nephews HOW2. Now they can
build just about any wooden fence and know the attributes of the HOW2s. Looks the same on both sides, shows almost no fasteners
and is 8foot tall meeting all city codes. Redwood mulch in neighbors garden is from groving the board edges and the rest of the
sawdust used to mulch parents garden.

And one found going through a box of old pictures. It's of my wedding reception back
in 1973. Bitter sweet in divorcing, great memories, bad memories.

06jun23 edit....
Getting ready to marinate the BBQ meats for the mini reunion tomorrow and got some
pictures down loaded from my camera in prep for the party. Picture is of one of my IVL teams after placing 1st in the playoffs
last season (06March). Injured and only sub'ing, so the guys didn't want to have their playing time diluted, so had me sit
these games. Guys range from 5'1" to 6'4". Gals range from 4'11" to 5'4".

{edit}....Dolo forced me to put my B-Day date... :)
