Sally Dorety Wilkins

Hi all:
Just a short note to catch you all up on my activities in the last 50 years. I attended Sac State College (CSUS) for 2 years, but finally graduated in 1984 from USF. I became a teacher in 1989 and taught middle school until my retirement in 2004. While we lived most of our married life in Oakland, Bob and I moved to Reno, NV in 1992.

My husband, Bob, had begun to decline with Alzheimer's Disease so the last 15 years of his life were very difficult for him and for all of us. He died in January 2009.

My son, Rob, played trumpet professionally for 20 years after graduating from UCLA in 1991; He received two Masters of Music, one from the San Francisco Conservatory and th second from Yale School of Music; in early 2002 he went back to school, graduating from Holy Names College as an elementary school teacher. He now teaches in Oakland, CA (in his old 5th grade classroom).

My daughter, Nan (Fitzpatrick) graduated from UC Davis in 1993, worked as an intern for a local hospice house for AIDS patients, as an educator for San Juan Unified, and received her Masters in Public Health from University of Michigan in 1999. She currently is married to Dr. Tom Fitzpatrick, a pediatrician for Kaiser in Sacramento. They have 3 adorable children who are 8, 5 and 15 months. (Two girls and one boy)
They live in River Park (what a small world).

When Bob & I moved to Reno, I taught at a local middle school for 15 years. Upon retirement, we moved back to Sacramento for 2 years, but when Bob had to be moved to a care facility, I moved back to Reno where I now live communally with 3 other women of my age group. The four of us realized a long-held dream of creating a "communal" living space for women of our age who were divorced, single or widowed.

My current life consists of volunteering in th local school, helping with reading, working with a local children's museum as it gets up and running, singing in my church choir, hiking, kayaking, camping, love being outdoors.

My greatest accomplishments include my wonderful children, and my career as a teacher. I have never looked back on either of these "careers".

My hopes, visions, dreams of the future include traveling to Italy, walking the Tahoe Rim Trail, visiting every National Park in the U.S., and giving my time to children who need help and being a good friend.

I don't know where the 50 years went......I don't feel old; I just creak a little more than I did even 20 years ago.

Looking so forward to seeing all of our classmates in a couple of weeks.
