Today's Featured Biography
Mike Foster
Moved to Piedmont in 1959, from Ottumwa, Iowa; where our family business was headquartered (John Morrell & Company--Meat Packers). Attended Frank C. Havens Elementary School from 1st grade through graduation (1965). Piedmont Jr. High School for 1965/66 School Year only (7th grade)--before moving to Modesto. Graduated from Grace M. Davis High School in 1971. Played on the Varsity Golf Team & ran on the Varsity Cross Country Team. Worked summers for the Modesto Irrigation District (1971-1973). Attended U.C. Davis from 1971-1973. Transferred to Sac State & graduated in 1976 (with a B.S. in Environmental Resources). Worked in Forestry & Park Management with both the State of California (starting up the California Conservation Corps-1976), and with the U.S. Government (part-time from 1974-1977 and then full time from 1977 on...). Duty stations included: The Tahoe & El Dorado & Toiyabe & Los Padres National Forests, & the BLM in Eugene, Oregon. During these years, I was fortunate enough to spend a lot of time mountain climbing & backpacking & bicycling throughout the Western USA. Got married in the Oakland/Piedmont Morcum Rose Gardens in June of 1981, to Nancy Winslow--who graduated from U.C. Davis in 1977. We lived near her original home town of Yarmouth, Maine from 1982-1984. (Both of us were employed by L.L. Bean, Inc.) Back to the East Bay with our young son, Adam, in late 1984. Been here ever since that time, while working in the private sector as a sales engineer--specializing in selling valves & valve actuators to the water & wastewater industry. Started Foster Flow Control in 2005, and being a small business owner is very challenging! Nancy & I divorced in 1994, and I continued coaching Adam & Matt in AYSO Soccer, and also in the Pleasant Hill Baseball Association (10 years total). Charlene & I got married in 2000, and she also has three grown children. My son, Adam graduated from U.C. Davis in 2007. He married Kate Coyle in June of 2010. (They got married in a wine cave in the Napa Valley! They have three children, and live in Walnut Creek, CA.) Matt is an English teacher in Concord, CA. He married Emily Parker in 2013 & they have two boys, and live in Concord, CA. My youngest son, Morgan is busy writing & playing music, and belongs to three bands. He is also a partner in a company that repairs guitars. He lives in Walnut Creek. Charlene will retire at the end of 2020, then we will probably build a retirement home on our five acres; which are located just east of Pollock Pines. I am semi-retired, and may work until I am 70 years old?

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
