Today's Featured Biography
Connie Matsui Beckman
Life has been eventful and fulfilling since graduating from PHS, then Stanford in 1975. I was fortunate to be admitted to the Stanford Graduate School of Business directly from college and received an MBA with emphasis in Marketing and Finance. My husband, Bill and I, met at the GSB and married five years later.
After a 15-year career with Wells Fargo Bank, I made the switch into the biotechnology industry, which resulted in our family moving to San Diego. It was invigorating and inspiring to work with others to improve the lives of patients, especially those with cancer and autoimmune diseases. The company I started with successfully spanned all aspects of drug development and grew from a tightly knit crew of 100 people, to 1,000 in two locations, then, ultimately, by merger, to 4,000 employees worldwide.
Simultaneously, I maintained an active volunteer career, starting with alumni organizations and local human services agencies. Although I was never a Girl Scout as a child, I was invited to join the board in the Bay Area in the early 80's. This experience was so positive, I went on to volunteer at the national and international level over the past twenty-plus years, including three years as National President/Board Chair of Girl Scouts of the USA.
Since retiring in 2009, I am thrilled to have more time for family, friends as well as board service and civic leadership. My special interests are social innovation, cross-sector collaboration and community engagement. My husband and I both enjoy giving back to the communities we are part of and using our business skills and nonprofit experience to advance the missions of the organizations we serve.
With very best wishes for the future!
Connie

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
