Today's Featured Biography
Lori Graham
After LHHS, I took a year off to work, then went to University of Redlands for one year. Low finances sent me to Fullerton College for a year, after which I attended Whittier College for three years, completing a B.A. degree in Human Behavior Studies (self-designed major, largely psychology). I went to Philadelphia for the summer following my graduation, with an eye towards possibly moving there, but found myself unready to make such a profound life change. I returned home in late summer 1985, and lost my father to a heart attack a few weeks later. I went out applying for full-time work the day after he died, and landed a clerk job at Crown Books, which became an assistant manager position after a couple of weeks of employment. When I transferred from the Pasadena store to the Whittier store, I met the man who would became my husband, Bruce Crocker-- an avid book reader who constantly prowled the store looking for new titles (and hitting on me,which I was unaware of). We married on June 25,1988, after which I recognized that animal care was my true calling and enrolled in Mt San Antonio College Registered Veterinary Technology program, eventually earning an A.S. degree. I worked in several veterinary hospitals in varying capacities during my time at Mt SAC and for some time after; I also worked part time at Disneyland Hotel reservations (the Fall 1992 semester found me taking 12 units, working an animal hospital job during the week and Disney on the weekends). I finally landed my current position-- day shift cytology technician at Antech Diagnostics-- in late 2003. We have lived in uptown Whittier for the past 22 years, in a 1923 bungalow near Whittier High School for the last 10 years. We currently have two cats (both of them rescues as kittens) and a three-legged dog (most likely a hit-by-car,she was found by the side of the road and brought to the hospital where I was then working, where both her right leg and shoulder required removal due to the extensive damage done). My canine soulmate, Lobo, a Navajo reservation dog Bruce found on the res in Arizona, passed away a few years ago at the approximate age of 15. He is one of five tatoos I currently have on my lower back and shoulders. I was recently diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and am responding well to medication and therapy. Bruce teaches Earth Science at LHHS and performs with the LHHS Ukulele Ensemble, which played at the Class of 79 30 year reunion. We both enjoy many types of music, reading material, movies, and television, and attend a few concerts a year (mostly at smaller venues). Bruce tells me I've written enough now; write me back, I'd love to hear from you!
Cheers :-) Lori
