Today's Featured Biography
James DeWitt
(from Classmates…also on Facebook)
Well after moving to Grass Valley in 1960, I met some very nice people. Of course I was a bit of a southern Californian with an attitude. It followed me through out my junior high school and then into NU. I just didn't give alot of thought about my future after moving to GV. I tried a little at NU but I still didn't feel like I fit in. I knew that I didn't fit the profile . It's hard leaving your friends in one place and trying to fit in in another, but my heart just wasn't in it. My most favorite teachers at NU were Mrs. Bowles and Mr. Stevens. They just wanted to see me thru HS, but they really tried to reach me. I really didn't appreciate it until after I was gone. I tried Sierra College for awhile then decided to go back to work. Then the worst. I got drafted. I met up with David Frazer and Ken Green at the Oakland Army Base enroute to Vietnam. I ran into Gary Gamble in Japan after Vietnam, boy what a surprise. I think he moved to Sac after 9th grade. I stayed in the Army until 1976. I was still a slow learner. Anyway, I went back to college at Stockton, CA, Delta College, got my degree in Criminal Justice. Unfortunately my age got the best of me at the time. I was to old to become an officer. But it was well worth it, little late, but like they say, better late than never. So I went to work for the US Gov't at the Stockton airport, for the civil service. In 1990, my wife and I transferred to Anchorage Alaska. What a beautiful state. And yes, they, do still have igloo's. I retired from the US Gov't in 2000 and we moved back to Modesto, CA. That's when I finally got my act together and found Jesus, I was born again and love Jesus, I have never lost faith, even in the early years, though it kinda seemed like it at the time, high school, Vietnam, I know Jesus was there with me in Vietnam, after getting shot down once, crashing our helicopter once, I know he was there. I'm sure he was there for Ken Scurr but destiny is destiny. That was a sad day for me. My highest love is to Jesus and my family. I just wish it had come sooner. Actually it was there but unfortunately growing up as a kid in GV, and not giving a hoot, even through my mom had all of us kids go to Church, it was in me but I just didn't realize it at the time. I had good times at Church and all the camping, seminars, that was a lot of fun and I did enjoy it, but wasn't committed. It was there, but I didn't realize it. That's where our family (all the kids) are, in Modesto. I tried to retire a total of three times, still just couldn't adapt. Then we moved to Big Spring, TX and the rest is history. But still Northern Californian's at heart.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
