Today's Featured Biography
Ron Buckhammer
After RHS, I went on to Fresno State and upon graduation in '66 joined the Marine Corps, for a little adventure outside of our hometown. It turned out to be a lot more adventure than I bargained for - by being with a unit in Vietnam, M Company of the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Division, that saw a lot of action.
Was happy to return to Civilian life to start a career in advertising that took me to places like New York, Detroit, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and even Greenville, SC. I thought I was escaping the incoming fire in combat. I quickly learned, however, it is in the world of politically-charged Big Business where you had to dodge "bullets" daily. I had the privilege, though, of directing the advertising for some of the nation's most famous brands, ranging from Orville Redenbacher's Gourmet Popcorn to Ford Motor Company, General Motors Buick Division and electric vehicle program, Michelin Tires, McDonald's, Detroit Edison, and the new car launches of Mitsubishi and the Acura Division of American Honda.
Then, after teaching for a while at Menlo College near Palo Alto, I simply wound up back in Fresno in 2005 with the company Electronic Recyclers International. Now, I am still trying to afford retirement by heading up a digital marketing company and working with high tech startups in the Bay Area.
Was blessed with two lovely daughters along the way and, after a lot of searching, found the real love-of-my life, Carol Batte, whom I married in 2014.
It's always comforting to be back in touch with the RHS friends that were such a huge part of my life when we all grew up together enjoying the best of those less complicated and more innocent times.
