Today's Featured Biography
Carolyn Miles Collins
I got to go to our 10 year class reunion, celebrated too much, but had a blast. Since then something has always been going on which prevented me from going to another. I'm shoting for the next one though and I pray nothing happens then that would prevent me from going. Boy, we'll all be old then. It's hard to believe, I feel the same, but when I look in the mirror, I think, who is that old woman. I think I'm ageing okay, but I see better around me, I also see worse. Maybe it will be our 50th that we have the biggest turn out at. Can you believe it, 26 years since we've all been together. Let's see, I've been in the navy where I got to live in Hawaii. That was fun. My dad told me if you want a skate rate, go for storekeeper. Needless to say I was a storekeeper. I got out when I was pregnant with my first daughter. When she was 10 months old I went to work at Nordstroms Distribution Center until Carissa was almost four, then I went in business for myself, figured if anyone was going to screw up my daugher it would be me. I had Libby one day, the next I brought her home to day care. We moved to Grass Valley when when she was four months old. Then we moved to Nevada before she turned three. I continued doing day care and life was pretty good. It was kinda surprising when my then husband decided we needed to get a divorce, but I was game. He wasn't out of the house three months before he changed his mind. But the kids had already been through the worse, and I couldn't agree. It wasn't until 2 years after my divorce that I could reconize my contribution to the failure of our marriage, yup, I was at least 50% responsible. Now my ex is happily remarried to his high school sweet heart and living in Mississippi. Hip, hip, hooray...
So of course I had to get a job with benifits after my divorce, I resisted as long as I could, then I went to work as a correctional guard for almost 3 years, mens medium security. That was a very stressful first day, Imagine, worked in my own home for the past 12 years, then the first day at my new job and all I knew about it was the movies. Three weeks later I was training a new guard in unit 1, and I hadn't even been to POST training. It's funny to think about now. Anyways nothing real bad ever happened on my shift, a few fights, some manly shows, caused extra report writting but no one was killed. I got my AA while working there. Once I got off the prison payroll I got on Welfare's. Worked there as an eligibility worker for almost 1 1/2 years. Then I went to my current job as a disability adjudicator for social security.
Let's see, I should go back to my love life. While I was still doing day care I met my boyfriend of today. We became exclusive in 2000 and we're planning on co-habitating after my youngest graduates from high school. Carissa graduated in 2001, Libby will be in 2009. Reggie is an only child, never married, and never had kids. For those of you who don't know, I come from a family with six kids, plus two step brothers. Libby was raised in day care and thought she ruled the roost. Needless to say, we freaked Reggie out at first, and still do to this day. He's a very quiet, calm man, and we hollar at each other. It's amazing the man has stuck around as long as he has. But I love the guy, and he loves me, and we both look forward to seeing where life will lead us.
I think I've just about covered all the main points. Now someone please fill me in on what's happened in your life since we graduated. I'd love to hear.
...smiling...
