Today's Featured Biography
John Kaiser
Fifty years since high school graduation – wow! Life passes so quickly. Following graduation from Granite Hills High School, I entered San Diego State College (SDSC) earning a degree in geology and graduating in 1967. With the Vietnam War in full swing, Uncle Sam requested my services resulting in my joining the United States Air Force. Following graduation from Officer’s Training School as a second Lieutenant, I started what was to become a twenty-two year adventure serving in the armed forces retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. During my career, I specialized in studying nuclear weapons effects, developing nuclear effects hardening designs for military systems, and monitoring nuclear treaty compliance as a member of the Atomic Energy Detection System (AEDS) organization. During these assignments, I participated in space launch operations at Cape Canaveral (very exciting, very demanding) and was returned to California State University San Diego (CSUSD) for a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) specializing in Operations Research. During these adventures, I met and married the love of my life, Johnell, to whom I have been married for a fantastic 43 years. Together we have three children and five grandchildren. Following my retirement from the Air Force in 1988, Johnell and I returned to El Cajon where I entered the civilian work force in the environmental services profession conducting environmental impact surveys for the military’s Base Realignment And Closure (BRAC) program. My wife Johnell continued her career as a dialysis nurse and clinical educator training dialysis unit staffs across the United States in the latest dialysis methods. One smart lady! In 1993, I returned to San Diego State University (SDSU) for a second graduate degree, this time in Geography specializing in remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS). Following graduation in 1996, I was hired by the San Diego State University Research Foundation as a research coordinator for NASA research grants employing remote sensing and GIS as applied to Homeland Security Department border security issues. Johnell and I both retired in 2006 and took up traveling the world and spoiling grandchildren. Johnell and I continue to live in El Cajon. Hope to see and speak with all of you attending the reunion. Good luck and God bless.
