Today's Featured Biography
Walter Young
Joined the Navy after graduation. It's been about 12 years now. Can't say I'm 100% happy with the Navy, but it's allowed me to travel the world and experience cultures that I would probably never have had the opportunity to experience on my own. I've never been in one place for more than a couple years. No, I don't find this rootless existence appealing. But, I've been to enough countries around the world to fully appreciate the best one, America. I was in the Persian Gulf during the 10-year reunion. On the way back, just after leaving Hawaii, 9-11 happened. I was finally back in San Diego on 9-14. The flags were everywhere; on cars, on buildings, on freeway over-passes, on shirts, ball caps, babies, everywhere. I was choked with emotion to see all this patriotic display after just getting back from a tour in the Gulf. But, where have the flags gone now? Where's the flag you used to have on your car? Mine is still there. In fact, I've flown a flag on my car for ten years before 9-11 ever happened. Sure, every couple months I have to go to Kragen and get a new one, but that's a small price to pay for the symbol of freedom that others have paid the ultimate price for. I don't even know why I'm rambling on like this. This is just for DHHS reunion stuff. I guess I just happen to be in a weird mood right now. O-kay anyway, I just flew off the USS Constellation (Aircraft Carrier) operating in the Persian Gulf. My buddies are still there doing their part in the war, but it was my time to leave and get back to the States. I spent some time in Thailand, Singapore, and Japan before getting back to San Diego on March 29th. The next 3 years in San Diego will finally allow me to get some serious college time. I've managed to get an Associate's in Aviation Electronics while bouncing around in the Navy all these years. I'll be getting my 2nd Harley in April, progressing through my flight certifications, and finishing my BS in Professional Aeronautics. When I'm not rambling on stupidly about American patriotism, I like riding motorcycles, flying airplanes, teaching my baby girl how to talk and walk, and to be constantly frustrated by the depressing performance of the Chicago Bears. Back in DHHS, I had a red Honda scooter, hung out at Stone Hill, and some people called me "Ritchie" after Ritchie Valens in La Bamba. I never thought about it much back then, but I have no idea how that "Ritchie" thing ever got started. If anybody remembers me, which I highly doubt, send me an E-mail. And for all you highly successful types who own your own business, vacation in Paris, and have too much money to have real-world worries... send me an E-mail and a check, Thanks!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
