Today's Featured Biography

Mitchell Clapp

Graduation from Westmont left me uncertain as to what I would do with life. I got a job right out with a construction crew and stayed with them for about a half year. An opportunity arose and so I packed up and moved to Germany to live for a year with a German family. I went to a German high school for another year and learned the language. I returned and started at West Valley College taking one or two classes at a time while working at an advertising agency. After about a year of that I got a job at NASA AMES Research Center out at Moffett Field. I worked at NASA for five years as a "lab-geek" (My real job title is long and confusing). In addition to an almost full-time job there I volunteered at the fire department and Hazardous Materials Response team for NASA. I continued to attend classes at West Valley College during that time and although some say I might have lacked "focus" I took a full load each semester to remain eligible to play College Soccer and Tennis. I was fairly certain that I had found a potentially permanent career choice and knew I would finish up my degree in Computer Science. Aside from my love for computing I couldn't shake a more deeply ingrained dream to fly. The age cutoff for flight was nearing so I found a school and left California to settle in Northfield Vermont. Norwich Military University became my home and for the first year I became the oldest (at 26) "Rook." Rookdom is a very complicated situation involving an over abundance of yelling and mental stress. Not wanting to let go of my sports hobbies, and in addition to my military college life, I signed on as an assistant coach at Norwich for both soccer and tennis. Completing my right of passage I submitted myself for flight track assessment. I have graduated with a B.S. Degree in Computer Information Assurance and a B.A. Degree in Leadership. I am currently in Washington DC flying helicopters around the most restricted airspace in the world.
