Wendy Mitchell

After highschool I attended John Abbott in Business Adminstration then went on to Concordia in Women's Studies and then in 1993, I moved to Ottawa to attend Carleton in Sociology / Anthropology.

After 'testing' out various carreers I came to rest at a bank of all places! I worked at MBNA Canada for almost 10 years, the majority of which were spent building and facilitating their community investment program.

After seeing the needs in the community and how businesses could help with those needs, I decided it was time to transfer my expereince to the nonprofit world. I have been working at Volunteer Canada as the Manager of Corporate Citizenship & Fund Development since 2006...and love every minute of it!

I met my husband in 2000 and we were married in 2001 in the Fiji Islands with close friends at our side and now live in a small town outside of Ottawa and lead very busy lives...

Bob is a Mortgage Development Manager for Scotiabank as well as a board member for the make A Wish Foundation of Eastern Ontario. We met while he was the fundraiser for habitat for Humanity and he will tell you to this day that was the most valuable $10,000 grant that he ever worked on :)

I am the board chair for LiveWorkPlay (liveworkplay.ca), an organization that helps to support a good life for young people with intellectual disabilites, and the vice-chair of the United Way Ottawa Disabilites Impact Council.

I am also slowly (very slowly) completing a BA in Disability Studies at Ryerson University. This was chosen completely out of personal interest after many years of volunteering with people with intellectual disabilites.

We have 2 beautiful dogs--Odie, a 15 year old Yorkie, and Bailey, a 4 year old Beagle. No children yet but who knows what the future will hold...

I look forward to seeing all of you again and hearing about your adventures.
