Today's Featured Biography
Pat Parker Davis
After graduation, Pat was employed by South Central Bell for one year prior to attending Nursing School at Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. Upon graduation, Pat remained at Baptist Hospital for five years before taking a leave of absence to return to school at the University of Colorado. She received her B.S. in Nursing in 1967 and returned to Nashville to accept the position of Director of Nursing Service at Nashville Memorial Hospital. After one year, she accepted a position with a consulting firm in Atlanta and remained there for a year prior to accepting a position with Extendicare, later to be known as Humana. Pat moved to Huntsville as Director of Nursing at a new 325-bed facility and remained there for five years. During this time she married the Executive Director of the hospital and, as a result, had to leave her position. She then opened a new home health agency and served as Executive Director for three years. Pat's husband was transferred to Louisville with Humana, and Pat then became the Executive Director of a 150-bed hospital in Louisville. She remained there for five years and was then promoted to the Executive Director of a 485-bed facility. It was this hospital that developed an international Heart Institute and Pat was responsible for developing the program that resulted in the artificial heart implant program that received national recognition. Over the next 10 years Pat served in various capacities with Humana and Columbia such as Executive Director of two other facilities, Senior Vice President responsible for 22 hospitals in five states, as well as responsibilities for five insurance markets. She was Acting Chief Executive Officer at the University of Louisville Hospital. Pat divorced in 1990 and has no children. She has, however, been very active in community and civic organizations serving on many boards such as Funds for the Arts, United Way, Opera Board, etc., as well as being very active on the political scene and within her professional organizations. In 1992, Pat served as President of the Federation of American Health Care Systems. After retiring in 2000, Pat moved to Sarasota, Florida. She is currently active in many community activities. Pat is a member of the Boards of Doctor's Hospital in Sarasota and the Lido Shores Community Association. She also provides some consulting services when requested.
