Today's Featured Biography
Rosalind Bonnette Kruger
Born in Sydney, Australia as only daughter of Dr & Mrs Stanley Bonnette. Older brother Howard Bonnette & younger brother Andrew Bonnette.
Attended Croydon Primary until 4th class when I started at Presbyterian Ladies College. On part Scholarship for my High School years. I was a keen player of piano, tennis, netball and an avid Girl Guide. Always loved school so was thrilled to be chosen as an AFS exchange student and the first one to spend a year at Dallastown Area High School graduating with the class of '66.
Thanks to all this Classmates who were fun and kind!
On my return to Sydney I finished a Bachelor of Science with majors in Zoology and Psychology. In 1969 I started teaching high school science, married german Folker Kruger and moved 2000 miles to Perth, Western Australia.
While teaching and completing a Diploma of Education, part time at University of WA I went solo as a glider pilot, sang in the Perth Oratorio Choir and pursued my passions for learning languages and international cooking.
In November 1974 my son Christopher Kruger was born and the following year the family moved to Taipei, Taiwan for 4.5 years. Unable to work I started a Master of Arts with Michigan State University, played pennants tennis, learned conversational Mandarin and in July 1977 produced daughter Melissa Kruger. Learned to deal with typhoons and earth tremors but loved my monthly visits to National Palace Museum. If you love Chinese Art make sure you see it's amazing collection!
In 1980 the family moved to Singapore for 4.5 years. Again unable to work I completed the Master of Arts, played pennants tennis and enjoyed my wonderful children.
In 1985 the family returned to Perth, Folker and I divorced, he returned to live in Asia while the children & I stayed in Perth. I taught high school Biology and Human Biology while I studied part time to become a school psychologist. Met my partner Ron Day in January 1997 about the same time both my children became science graduates from University of WA, left home and bought their first real estate.
From January 1990 to December 2009 I worked full time as a school psychologist. I retired on the arrival of my beautiful first grandchild Ava Kruger. Since then I do part time contracts between trips.
My son Christopher programmes computer games and is married to Kirrily and they have 2 children Ava (6 Yrs) and Odin (3 Yrs).
My daughter, Melissa, has been a pilot, a flying instructor, a mechanical engineer and now is a hydrologist with Hydrotas in Hobart, Tasmania. She is a passionate whitewater rafter, snow boarder, mountain climber and walker. She did a stint in Haiti as a volunteer and recently travelled in Nepal.
My partner, Ron, plays lawn bowls daily, since he retired in 2006 from his 35 yr career as a University lecturer. He had a wonderful 80th birthday party this 9th January.
I am a Rottnest Island voluntary guide, a keen collector of contemporary paintings, babysit my grandchildren 1-3 times a week, attend aquafit to keep fit, chair the council of owners of our block of units and we're in the midst of a major renovation. Life is busy but I'm very grateful to enjoy so much variety and involvement.
We love overseas travel. Our most adventurous trips include Antarctica, Egypt, Russia & Outer Mongolia but we also loved UK, Europe, South America & Canada/Alaska.
This year we will take a Paddle-steamer from New Orleans to Memphis, bus to Nashville before flying to join you for the 50 year reunion on 17th September! Can't wait !
