60TH NEHS CLASS OF 62 REUNION
THURSDAY AUGUST 18 AFTERNOON 4:00-7:00pm
PIZZA AT ROARING RAPIDS – 4006 Franklin Blvd.
We have had this event annually for the last 10 years! The change this year is that we are starting at 4:00. There will be live music on the patio starting at 6:00 and this should give us two hours for visiting and reconnecting before the music begins. We are free to linger under the awning for as long as we would like. You can order your pizza and drinks or get a salad as you walk through to the back area by the river.
FRIDAY AUGUST 19 MORNING 9:00-11:00am
COFFEE & TRACKTOWN USA – Corner of Agate & 15th St
Let’s meet at 9:00 in the The Duck’s House in the food court of the Unthank Building on Agate & 15th. (There is a map on the U of O website and we will have a handout map on Thursday night.) Here you will find a coffee bar with pastries and bagels, a convenience market that has a wide variety of breakfast and lunch items and a café that makes lunch items.
The parking in the campus area is street parking for up to 5 hours and is paid for at a machine located in the block using a debit or credit card. (These are found in many towns and cities, but if this is new to you: Hint – insert your card and quickly remove it before proceeding.) This will be summer and the World Track and Field Championships will have concluded, so hopefully finding a spot will not be difficult. Walking will be on city sidewalks, flat, with some variation in the level because of tree roots and holes. You may have to walk from ½ to 3 or more blocks from where you park. The three buildings we are going to are in close proximity to each other.
There is plenty of seating in The Duck’s House. We’ll probably end up in small groups. After some refreshment, we’ll walk across Agate St to a free museum in Hayward Hall, tucked under the bleachers. The museum is open from 10-2 Tuesday-Friday. It is a small, interactive museum on one level with benches to rest on. We are hoping to arrange for a tour of the tower for a 360 degree stunning view of the new and truly impressive Hayward Field and the city of Eugene. Be sure to look for photos of Kenny Moore and Neal Steinhauer in the museum.
For those who are interested, cross back over Agate Street to Museum of Natural and Cultural History, which is across from the Unthank Building on 15th. That museum opened in 1987 and has some fine exhibits on Civil Rights History of Eugene, Medieval Magic, Native Plants, Storytelling and Science, among others. The cost is $4.00 for Seniors.
FRIDAY AUGUST 19 AFTERNOON 1:00-4:00
SELF-CATERED LUNCH & BINGOMANIA, 255 LANSDOWN RD
We’ll meet up at the Community Center at Gainsborough Park at 255 Lansdown Rd, off Irving Rd. This is where we had the Red, White & True dinner at our 50th. Bring your own lunch and beverage and join in for some conversation and BINGO. We’ll play for prizes; the winner of each game will have his or her choice of an array of prizes. There should be something for everyone.
Lunch suggestions: Albertsons and Fred Meyer have full-service delis; Subway and Way Out Burgers in the Albertsons Shopping Center; and Market of Choice and Café Yumm on Green Acres Rd.
SATURDAY AUGUST 20 SUGGESTIONS
There are several fun, new things to see in Eugene. Grab a classmate or two and go exploring! Across the street from Eugene’s famous Saturday Market with artisan crafts, food and entertainment is the attractive new Farmers’ Market Pavilion and Plaza. Both of these locations are bustling with people at 8th and Oak St.
The new 5th Street Alley with shops and food is across Pearl St. from the 5th Street Market’s parking lot; there is also a parking lot next to the Gordon Hotel. The Alley ends at the entrance to the Gordon Hotel with fine and casual dining. There is the Gordon Tavern, Carlita’s Roof Top (adults only) and the 86 Speakeasy for a unique experience. Reservations recommended and required for the Speakeasy.
The Downtown Riverfront Park just opened Phase One in time for the World Track & Field Championships. It includes river overlooks, walking paths and seating areas. Access this from 5th and Mill St.
Our Class Message Board
Your participation is requested!
We would like to hear from you. Post your messages here.
I retired in 2004 from West Albany High (School counselor). Our favorite things since then , besides family, have been cruises, road trips, train trips...any kind of travel. We keep busy with sixteen grandchildren, ages 15 years to 5 months. We have spent a lot of time at the Portland temple, where Ross often officiates at weddings.
For the past couple of years, we have been taking full-time care of my parents, now 93 and 89. We have learned a great deal about the aging process and caregiver challenges. We are grateful to both be healthy enough to do it.
Although our lifestyle is very different since 2010, I still love to do family history research and a worldwide volunteer digital indexing project.
I look forward to seeing you in August.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
