Today's Featured Biography
Andrew Jones
So here we are near the end of 2005. If you viewed the previous reunion board you probably know a bit of my life, here is an updated version. After graduating I attempted to go to school at the UofO, I say attempted because I was very tired of school at the time and the classes quickly bored me. After failing most of my spring classes freshman year, and then all my fall classes I decided that maybe I should take a break from school. I didn't know at the time I would be taking seven off. I was working at DQ and making ok money so I thought everything was fine.
After quiting there with a prospective job somewhere else I felt that my life was getting better. When things fell through there, and my mom left for Cali my perspective started to shift a bit. I moved out (I was still living with my step-father) and then back in, then out again a year later, I had started working at the Target store out there on Gateway. Again I was making decent money, paying the bills, "living" life you know the drill. Anyway after a few years I grew impatient once more and tried working with a friend at a Printing plant in springfield. It was good money, but it just didn't feel right. So I went back full time at Target, and a few years later grew tired of the job once again. So in the fall of 2002 I started looking for something a bit more interesting. During the previous years I fell in and out of infatuations, but nothing ever serious (which is still true today.)
I eventually decided to join the Army and went through Basic training in the winter months of 2003 (much colder than Oregon.) Then it was off to Fort Bliss, Texas for advanced training (which during the summer is one of the most miserable hot places on the planet.) Finally in August of 2003 I went to my first unit on the Island of Oahu, getting to go to Hawaii was a dream come true. After a few months however the price of things starts to add up, and when taking leave costs 700+ just for the plane ticket you start to feel isolated. But overall my time in Hawaii was good. During my time there my Unit deployed to Iraq (I did not go to Iraq) and Afghanistan. I was part of the Afghanistan section and I spent about 11 months over there doing "stuff" (mostly very boring.) We all came back to Hawaii and spent a few months recovering and then we were sent to other units. I was sent back to Fort Bliss, Texas (where I am currently) and was stationed with a Patriot unit.
While I was deployed to Afghanistan I started going to an online college (since the lack of physical ones was apparent) and I am currently trying to find the time between training and such to take classes and hopefully before I get out of the military I will have a BS. Basically that has been my life since graduation, for all those that have been curious (I'm sure there's one of you out there.)
I don't know if I will be able to make it to the reunion (my time isn't always my own for the next few years) but if you want to you are more than welcome to send me email, messages, or whatever. I miss Oregon always.
Andrew
