After graduating from South High in 1974, I attended Lakeland Community College for two years and then Cleveland State University for three years, graduating with a BA with highest honors in 1982. During the time I was in college, I worked full time at Chase Brass and Copper Company, where I was an overhead crane operator.
After college, I went to Duke University School of Law and graduated in 1982. After a few years in private practice, I became a law professor and taught at several law schools around the country, mostly at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. In 1989, I helped to start a non-profit organization, International Labor Rights Forum (ILRF), which focused on improving worker rights for workers in the global economy. This was in response to the globalization process in which U.S. multinationals moved U.S. jobs to countries where there was little labor and environmental protection. ILRF developed legal avenues for those foreign workers to improve their conditions. In 2007, I formed International Rights Advocates to focus exclusively on using litigation against multinationals to require them to comply with international human rights norms. I have been involved in many ground-breaking human rights cases against the name brands of the global economy. See www.internationalrightsadvocates.org
I married my wife, Sufie Berger, in 1994, after we had been together for about 5 years. We have two children, Alexander, now 29, and Camilla, now 26. Alex graduated from Georgetown Law School in 2022 and is now clerking for a federal judge. Camilla is in a graduate screen writing program in Los Angeles.
In my free time, I enjoy running, hiking, snowboarding, and literature. Sufie and I also do a lot of traveling.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
