Today's Featured Biography
Carolyn Shreffler Oliver
Wow, where have the last 40 years gone? After graduating from Kent State, I moved to Columbus, Ohio, and kept very busy teaching German and AP English, getting my MA from OSU, coaching girls’ softball and cheerleading, taking my students on many trips to Europe, and just having a grand time! After 30 years of teaching Columbus Public Schools, I took a faculty position at OSU as Program Manager for the Foreign/Second Language Department. I was also a PRAXIS III Assessor for the State of Ohio for five years - what an experience!! Life is never dull!!
While I was working, I also organized ski trips for adults for 26 years and finally did win a first place medal for downhill racing -- even though it was in the women’s 40 and over category! My border collie & I just love agility, and she (Bailey) won over 53 medals (29 were 1st place) and 6 titles last year. In my spare time, I loved volunteering for the James Cancer Hospital and became a patient advocate and also worked in fund raising after my scary experience with breast cancer in 1998. Life is truly precious!
I have a wonderful son, Ben, who went to a French Immersion school for 7 years and is a wonderful musician - playing oboe, piano, guitar, trumpet, drums, etc. He will be finishing up his BS in 2008 in Entertainment Business. He tried his hand at being a chef at Brio’s in Columbus for five years while playing music, but decided to finish his degree and hopefully not have to work every weekend and holiday for the rest of his life. What’s wonderful is now I don’t have to cook for the family on holidays!!! His creations in the kitchen are scrumptious to say the least!
I finally retired in December 2006 to begin a wonderful new life of retirement in Vero Beach, Florida. Jim and I love our pool and traveling. We’ve been para sailing in Antigua, drove a dogsled on a glacier in Alaska, swam with the dolphins & sting rays in the Cayman Islands, and are planning a zip line adventure in November in Mexico. But we will always be Buckeyes at heart!!! Now our motto is “Live everyday to the fullest with family and friends!” I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone in September.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
