Rachel Campbell Summerville
Where to start when updating 20 years?? After high school I went to Clarkson University with a few other B’ville grads (4 or 5 others, in fact). I started as a Biology major, but decided to switch to Chemical Engineering after being bored to tears with freshman Biology. I graduated Clarkson in 1992 and went to work for Bristol-Myers Squibb in East Syracuse. I LOVED my job and enjoyed a very challenging and rewarding 12 years there.
In 1995, I fell madly in love with one of my best friends (Jim Summerville, ’87). We married in 1996 and in 1999 we had our first child. Unfortunately Connor was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia (JMML) and passed away in 2003 after a long, hard, brave fight. Our second son, Noah, was born a few months later. Connor’s illness helped Jim and I to more clearly focus on our priorities, so I quit my job to stay home full time after Noah’s birth. In 2006 we thought we had completed our family with the birth of our beautiful daughter, Jenna, but we were surprised to be expecting our 4th. Our youngest, Caleigh was born in April, 2008.
In August 2006 Jim accepted a job that moved us from our hometown to Lancaster, PA. Lancaster is gorgeous and definitely has better weather, but B’ville will always be home and we miss it.
