Today's Featured Biography
Michael Russell
After narrowly escaping AP English and graduating from Hoggard, I began several years experimenting with baccalaureate degrees at NC State. In 1991, I graduated without honors with a BS in Economics -- which was coincidentally my least interesting class in high school. A college degree did nothing to change this feeling for me, so rather than wait for the opportunity to succeed Alan Greenspan as the head of the Federal Reserve, I opted to do something I liked - programming. I went back to school to get my certificate in computer programming (aka "post-graduate minor") while working evenings at SAS - a private software company in Cary.
An as undergraduate at State, I worked for the school newspaper as a photographer, eventually rising to the enviable position of "Photo Editor". This entitled me field passes to football games, floor passes to basketball games, front row seats to concerts, $200/month, access to thousands of dollars of photo equipment, and a staff of photographers to boss around (one of whom actually "made it", though I'll take no credit for that - www.chrishondrosphotography.com).
During this time I met Marci - the woman who would eventually become my wife. She was smart, beautiful, and had the ability to put up with me for an extended length of time without having a psychotic episode. After dating throughout college, I asked and she said yes. Almost 12 years later we have two children, both of whom unfortunately look much more like their father than their mother. Hopefully they will grow out of this.
My hobbies include photography, fishing, skiing, softball, soccer, drinking good Belgian ales, playing guitar badly and golfing even worse.
In the past 20 years, I have:
-been a member of the Teamster, loading trucks for UPS
-met Joe Piscopo, Richard Marx, Robert Cray, Jerry Seinfeld and Mojo Nixon
-photographed President Bush (the elder), Dan Quayle, Bill Cosby, The Who and The Rolling Stones
-learned to play soccer
-broken my leg (see above)
-ridden the tallest roller coaster in the world
-owned four 2-seaters, bought 2 houses, seen 2 space shuttle launches, and witnessed 2 children being born
-lost some hair
-gained some weight
-grown up (a little)
