Today's Featured Biography
Cathy Matthews Peters
After moving half-way through my senior year to Phoenix, I graduated from Apollo High School then ran cross country on scholarship at a local community college. Stuff happens and after reconnecting with my dad, moved to Wichita, KS. I worked construction, he was my boss, for one summer then attended beauty school. I am currently a licensed hair dresser, but have not worked in the profession since my son was born. I met my husband, Ojar, through his aunt-I worked in a salon with her. He was my first and last blind date! We married in 1995 and moved to Dallas, Texas where he worked after graduating from college. We lived there for 10 years. Our son, Declan-pronounced 'Deck-lun', was born there. We moved to Wichita a few years ago to be closer to family. I am active in the running community here, in addition to working races, I am the editor of our club newsletter. I have run 5 half marathons, 3 marathons, the last one was Boston just this past April, and numerous 5 and 10k's. I am training for another marathon this fall. In addition to my road racing, we also own a sprint car, which my father-in-law drives-he's been racing professionally since 1971. My son began racing go-karts this year, so the tradition continues. We keep very busy! I volunteer at church and am involved with PTO at school. I also work part-time at the school; during lunch recess, supervising the kids on the playground and in the classroom as an LRE Aide. I am very thankful for my amazing family and my friends!
