Debbie Houchen McMahon
I am sorry that I will not be able to attend the reunion! My sister Pam and I will be moving our mother from Indiana to Iowa to a senior apartment.
My dear Dad, Vernon, passed away ten years ago next month. He had been on dialysis for seven years which certainly took quite a toll on him. He was the best Dad and my family and I miss him every day! My step-mother lives in Decatur but her health has detioriated the last several years. My sister Pam lives in Minnesots, my sister Shelli lives in Sycamore, Illinois and my brother lives in Decatur.
I just retired on June 5th after 35 years as a teacher in Des Moines, Iowa. I am sooooo happy! My husband retired five years ago from teaching high school in Des Moines. We will celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary in July!
I spend my time working for strong Democrats! I volunteered hundreds of hours for John Kerry and have signed on with the Obama campaign this time. Iowa is very unique because of our first in the nation caucuses. You are able to get up close and personal with all of the candiates. It is very fun and exciting! I also love to read, will be volunteering at Hospice and the hospital in the fall.
I am active in PEO and also DKG, a group for women educators. I also have run two school board campaigns for two winning candidates. I love to write and have had over sixty of my editorials printed in the Des Moines Register.
I love my life and feel very blessed. I have a great family and love to get together with them whenever possible.
I also have two miniature daschunds named Mickey and Minnie. I love dogs too!
I find it hard to believe that I graduated from high school 40 years ago! They say time flies when you ard having fun!
