Today's Featured Biography
Gary Ellis
In the spring of 1963, the Elks Club of Ottumwa awarded me a multi-year scholarship which made it possible for me to attend the University of Iowa. During the summer of 1963 I was working part time at Morrells and ended up with a significant injury to the bottom of my left foot requiring hospitalization and numerous stitches. So off I went to the University of Iowa on crutches to study mechanical engineering. In 1964 I met the love of my life, Janet Port, while we both were working at the Hamburg #1 in Iowa City. We married on August 1, 1965. October 1966, I joined the army and went to Nike Hercules radar and computer training in Huntsville, Alabama for most of 1967. I eventually ended up at Fort Bliss, Texas where we trained NATO troops on the use of the Nike Hercules missile system. After finishing my enlistment in 1969, I attended the University of Texas at El Paso where I finished my BSME degree in 1971. I accepted a position with Dresser Industries in Dallas, Texas working in the Oilfield Services part of their operations. I spent 40 years working in the oilfield services industry for Dresser Industries, Texas Iron Works, and retired in 2011 from Halliburton. My wife and I have three daughters Amy Susanne (1977), Alexa Dianne (1978), and Alaine Roxanne (1979). We have four grandchildren, three boys and one girl. Our granddaughter was adopted from St. Petersburg, Russia, and we were incredibly happy to have a granddaughter. Since our marriage we have lived in Iowa City, Iowa, Huntsville, Alabama, El Paso, Texas, Dallas, Texas, Spring, Texas, Richardson, Texas and finally our current residence in Plano, Texas. Church has been an important part of our life and I currently teach an adult Sunday school class at the First United Methodist Church Plano. God has been good, and we are enjoying retirement.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
