Today's Featured Biography
Cathie Krier Bates
2006: I'm sure many of you don't remember me as I was only in the class for 1/2 our sophmore year & our senior year when I was living with my aunts & uncles. I did have the fun of attending UNI with a few of you, Roxane, Kris & Gary...boy that seems like a LONG time ago.
I am now living on the central coast of California in the small (aprox 6000) town of Cambria. It is 1/2 way between Los Angeles and San Francisco, near San Luis Obispo. I am self employed as a bookkeeper for several small businesses and non-profit groups. The main industry here is tourism and people come from all over the world to visit this beautiful area. I feel very lucky to be living here.
I have been married for 21 years (on June 22nd )to a great guy, Chris. He is a wallpapering contractor and gourmet chef. Both Chris and I have family in northern and southern Calif. so it is nice to be in the middle and have the chance to be a meeting place for family gatherings. We both come from large families and that is an important part of our lives, so we enjoy our 24 nieces and nephews and 6 great nephews & nieces whenever we get together. We don't have our own children, but we do have a wonderful dog, Mandy. She is a huricane Katrina rescue dog and has been great. We have had her about 6 months now. Our previous dog, Yogi, died at the age of 15 a year ago. We enjoy spending time at the beach and exploring other fun areas around here with our dogs.
Three years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a pretty tough battle, but after surgery, chemo and radiation treatments lasting most of 2003. I can now say I am a survivor. It was an experience that, unfortunately seems to happening to more and more people I know all the time. The good thing is that cancer has become something that can be battled and we do win more and more times!
2009 Update: In Nov. 2008 my husband, Chris passed away very unexpectedly. It has been a hard transition to being alone. I am grateful to have my dog, Mandy to keep me company. I have a lot of support from family as well as friends and neighbors here in Cambria. When something like this happens it just makes it more clear that we need to pay attention to every moment of life and not waste time on negative things. Thank you for your prayers and support.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
