Today's Featured Biography
Scot Kirkegaard
It is hard to believe that we are actually out of high school 35 years?? But we are NOT old, right? Now the challenge - what's happened in my life in the past 35 yrs.?
After graduating, I headed to college in Blair, NE as a Music major. After a year there (ok, a year in Nebraska was enough), I ended up in New Jersey, landed a job at Prudential Insur. and worked on finishing school. Somewhere along there I got married (1978) and became a father a few yrs later and divorced some years after that. I worked for Pru for a little over 7 yrs and then struck out for New York City to work for one of the major banks there. I developed training courses and computer-based training during the three yrs I worked there (often spending time in our facility in the 2nd tower of the World Trade Center). I then landed a job in Syracuse, NY that started the next 25 yrs of my career (the land of below zero temps and many, many feet of snow). I began to work for a company that sold accounting and inventory systems to Agricultural Equipment dealers. In the 12 yrs I worked there I went from a computer installer to District Manager to National Training Director based in St. Louis, MO. At that point, I was recruited by a competitor and have worked nearly 14 yrs here in Dallas, TX as the Training Manager. These days I can usually be found teaching a class of 2 or 3 or a room full of 30 students. My "students" are tractor dealership personnel from across the US and Canada who come in for training. I still feel connected to my rural upbringing as I work daily with clients from farming communities.
My son, Chris, graduated from Syracuse Univ. and is a graphics designer in Syracuse, NY. He and his wife, Jenny, and my grandson, Rex, live in a suburb of Syracuse.
I have much to be thankful for. I have a job I love and someone wonderful to spend my life with. My partner, Kenny, and I enjoy taking trips (we love Las Vegas), going to estate sales or working around our new home. Kenny is an Activities Director in an Alzheimers unit in a local nursing home. We are both active in our church and sing in the choir.
Photos: 1) I'm at the desk in my office (ok, so I'm not working at the moment) and 2) Kenny and I, smiling as usual, May 2005.
Family Update: My mother now lives in Osage, IA. My dad passed away in June 2002 after a brief battle with cancer. My sister Sarah and her husband and children live in Osage, IA where they both teach school. My sister Sela and her daughter Maya live in Cedar Rapids, IA where she is a Palliative Care Nurse.

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
