Today's Featured Biography
James (JIM) Rogers, Jr.
I am a native of Waycross, GA, and received my premedical education from the University of Georgia. I received my M.D. degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA, and then went to San Antonio for my pediatric training at Wilford Hall U.S.A.F. Medical Center. I returned to the Medical College of Georgia for my fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology after which I returned to Wilford Hall as a pediatric cardiologist. I practiced Pediatric Cardiology in San Antonio for 39 years in various practice settings including military, private practice, and as Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (stepped down as Division Chief about 5-6 years ago). I also served as Medical Director of the Children’s Regional Heart Network. I am certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and its Sub-Board of Pediatric Cardiology and was a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Cardiology during my active practice years. I was listed in The Best Doctors of America, in Texas, and in San Antonio for many years. In addition to my patient care activities, including a special interest in adult congenital heart disease, I also continued my interest in teaching as Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the UTHSCSA. I am married and have two married adult daughters and no grandchildren.
Kathy and I built our home on Whidbey Island, Washington in 2000 and moved here permanently after retirement from the UTHSCSA in summer of 2015. My hobbies include gardening, skiing, boating. In addition to Kathy, I have a passion for Whidbey Island and all of the wonderful activities available here and throughout the northwest.
At this time, Kathy and I volunteer at Meerkerk Gardens, a nonprofit rhododendron garden very near our home on Whidbey Island. I the Island County Master Gardeners class this year and am currently an intern until the end of 2017 when I complete my required number of voluntary service hours. We are also both members of the Rotary Club of Whidbey Westside.
