David Mason
I move to Arizona in November 2016 - - no snow, no humidity, no grass, but grandkids close by and we’ve got a pool. Since moving to AZ, I have gotten into acting and I’ve been in 2 community theatre productions, I have a part in a movie that is currently in production, and more. We also got a 2002 Thunderbird to enjoy the scenery.
I currently reside in Scottsdale, Arizona, with my wife, Maureen, "Mo".
After graduation, I became a “rambling wreck” from Georgia Tech, receiving a Master’s Degree in Engineering. My career included work as an Army Officer, Civil Servant, Information Technology Executive, Realtor, Entrepreneur, and more. I am now semi-retired, as the fancy strikes me, but still keep my hand in a few things that make money. I lived in Germany during my Army days and wound up in Virginia in 1977, and in 2002, my wife of 34 years passed from cancer. Maureen "Mo", my new wife, and I were married in 2004. We enjoy many extended visits to Mo’s home in England, where we tour places tourist rarely go, like; the Scilly Isles, Cornwall, the Lake District, York, Norfolk, and more. We also enjoy traveling in the US and include stops to see our 3 kids and 6 grandkids, visiting them in Atlanta, Austin, and Phoenix. One January we drove across the country, dodging snow storms along the way, visiting Graceland for our “Elvis fix”, and, among other things, seeing a cool wolf rescue center in New Mexico. We recently, 2015, drove 6,300 miles across the country, again, and encountered: best steaks ever in Kadoka, SD; best bar tender in Alpine, WY "tonic is expensive, so only a squirt in your G&T"; best hotel check in Big Sur, CA,"would you like red or white, while we check you in"; amazing roads everywhere; CA Pacific Coast Hwy was amazing; gotta stay at Hotel Del Coronado; drove through a flood in sunny CA; got on Route 66; and more - - you gotta do a cross country while there is still time - - never use an RV, it's too limiting - hotels and inns are much more interesting and fun, plus they have real beds. We live in Virginia, where we are associated with George Mason University and its Osher Life Learning Institute where I just retired as the Treasurer.
Hobbies: Acting, Travel, Continued Learning, Fine Arts, Tai Chi, Giving Cooking Demonstrations, Poetry Writing, Theatre, a little Gardening, Ex Skier, Ex SCUBA Diver, Never done Polo, Never taken up Golf.
Don’t plan to take up fencing, sky diving, or run the marathon. Hope to spend more time enjoying life, health and family, and write my memoirs. I found my inner poet to complement a lifetime of other pursuits, so I’ll definitely be writing poetry. Now, I'm into memoir writing - - a fictional history - it's more fun that way. Listen to more Jimmy Buffet and not to more Warren Buffet. Life is good - - that is the best option regardless of whether or not is smooth.
It is great to find this site for the old class of 62. I look forward to where it will lead us.
