Today's Featured Biography
Leila Gibbs McWhorter
I was married to John McWhorter, who died in 1977. I have 2 children and 5 grandkids. Three of my grands entered college this fall. The fourth will be a high school senior; and the youngest will enter Jr. High.
I was and still am very loyal to the University of Georgia (graduating 3 times): Journalism 1962, Master's in Library/Media (1976). 6 year Education Specialist(1977).
I began my teaching career at Athens High School, moved to Cartersville and worked at Cartersville High, moved to Houston County and became a library/media specialist. I have worked on every level of education from elementary to college reference librarian. I retired with 34 years of experience in education.
I moved to Houston County in 1969 and lived in Perry for 5 years, then in Warner Robins for 24 years, and now I live between the two with a Perry address. I inherited and still own 2 small farms in Tift County, so I spend time regularly on the farm on TyTy/Whidden Mill Road.
I love to travel, and in 1984 became an avid scuba diver and later an underwater photographer. I have had the privilege of visiting more than 30 countries. In 2004 I made my dream trip. I got to spend a month in Australia and New Zealand and on a live-aboard visited the waters of Papua New Guinea, (the best diving in the world).
