Today's Featured Biography
Morris Goff
Morris passed away to a much better place on March 11, 2011. he had been battling cancer for three years.
His Biography written by him: Attended ABAC after graduation and then served two years in the US Army, stationed at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Aurora, Colorado as a medical photographer where I obtained the rank of Sergeant E-5.
After service, I worked as a medical photographer at Emory University Hospital and then moved to Albany, GA and worked as a professional photographer and also worked at Miller Brewing Company. During this time I also owned and operated Morris Goff Photography. I recieved my associates degree from Darton Junior College.
I retired on 6/1/05 after 25 years with Miller Brewing Company and 50 years of doing photography.
Maxie and I enjoy riding our Goldwing motorcycle around the Southeastern United States. That is, until lymphoma cancer forced me to quit riding. Now we spend most of our time between home and the oncology clinic.
Maxie and I have two adult children and four grandkids.
(Just a note about Morris from his soul mate.)
Morris and I were able to travel to Denver, CO to attend the GA/CO football game in early October 2010. We located our old apartment and saw Fitzsimmons General Hospital where he was stationed while in the Army in 1965-67. Visited Vail and some of the other places we enjoyed while stationed there. He had looked forward to this trip for a year and I am so glad we were able to make it. He did love the GA Bulldogs, win or lose.
Morris loved photography since high school and made it his career, having his own studio for many years. He was working as a photographer at The Tifton Gazette when we met the summer of 1962. How we met is a whole other story.
Golf was another one of the things Morris loved to do. He usually played two to three times a week until he was diagnoised with cancer. He and his best friend, Bob Justine played many of the well-known golf clubs in and around West Palm, Florida.
He also loved riding motorcycles. Don't think he ever got rid of any he purchased as I still have a few, dirt and street bikes. He bought his last bike, a Honda Goldwing, so that I would ride with him. After his battle with cancer, he was unable to ride with me as a passenger, so he had the bike triked, just so I would go with him. He and I made our last ride together with our son, Walter just two weeks before his death. I'll never forget that ride. As a tribute to him, our riding friends, the Albany Crusiers, led the procession to the cemetery in Irwin County. A friend riding our Goldwing trike led the way with our son second in lead.
Having caring friends, family and classmates has helped greatly. Thank you for allowing me to share this little bit of information with you about my beloved Morris. Maxie
